When the Gilmore Girls revival, A Year In The Life, hit Netflix, most of the focus was on Rory - and her life had gone through the most change. Which makes sense, of course - at the end of the original series, Rory was off to start her adult life, and fans couldn't want to see where she ended up. Lorelai, on the other hand, simply continues the changes that started in the show itself - finding her feet, starting her business, and (finally) getting together with Luke.
But if the Lorelai of that first episode, begging Luke for coffee, could see the Lorelai of the revival, what would she think of her future self? She would certainly be proud of some of the big dreams that came true (and she'd be proud of Rory, of course), but there are a few things that pilot-Lorelai might be disappointed in, too.
Hate: Going To Therapy With Her Mother
In the revival, Lorelai ends up unwittingly in therapy with her mother (when she thinks that she is just invited along to meet Emily's therapist). In the pilot and early episodes of the show, though, Lorelai still struggles with her mother, and sees Friday night dinners as a necessary - temporary - evil to get Rory through Chilton. If she knew that years later, they wouldn't just be still doing dinners, but that they would be seeing a therapist together, she would be appalled.
Proud: Owns Her Own Inn
In the early part of the series, Lorelai has become the manager of the Independence Inn, having worked her way up from cleaning the rooms, but she dreams of owning her own place.
By the revival, she has a wildly successful inn of her own, and is even able to start expanding. Not only that, but she actually got to buy the run-down Dragonfly and restore it, just like she'd always dreamed.
Hate: Sookie Isn't Her Partner Any More
Fans were heartbroken that Sookie wasn't a bigger part of the revival, and Lorelai would be too. While the two are still close, Sookie has become fascinated with other projects, working on farming and growing out in the wilds, and she no longer gets really involved with the Inn that she and Lorelai started together. Lorelai would be happy for her friend's happiness, but hate that this part of her dream didn't come true.
Proud: She And Luke Are Happy...
Lorelai always put her daughter first, although she started looking for a relationship again during the series, and had quite a few of them. She would be happy to know that her future self is happy in a long-term relationship with Luke, and that they managed to get through all their ups and downs together. ittedly, she may not have expected that Luke would be her happy ending, but she would love knowing that she gets one.
Hate: ...But They Aren't Married
ittedly, by the final scenes of the revival, they are, but for most of it, Luke and Lorelai are still not married. And while this wouldn't be an issue for many people, Lorelai really did want to get married (as proven by the fact that she was engaged to Max, then married Christopher, then nearly married Luke!).
She would be sad to hear that her stubbornness kept them from tying the knot for so long.
Proud: She Has A Dog
This may seem like an odd thing to be proud of, but Lorelai has something of a reputation for being terrible with animals. However, when she rescues Paul Anka, she realizes that maybe she just needed to find the right animal after all. Being able to keep a pet loved, happy, and healthy is a major accomplishment for Lorelai, even if it's a smaller one for others.
Hate: She And Christopher Were Married
Lorelai and Christopher have a particularly complicated relationship, and at the start of Gilmore Girls, Lorelai wasn't particularly impressed with Rory's father. If season one Lorelai learned that she and Christopher actually got married, and then divorced again, she would be absolutely furious with her future self!
Proud: She Repaired Her Relationship With Her Parents
Season one Lorelai may also be surprised by this, as she had no intention of becoming close with her parents again. However, she would undoubtedly be proud to hear just how much they had managed to repair things - and how surprisingly close they had become.
Especially given that Richard ed away between the series and revival, Lorelai would be happy to know they patched things up before the end.
Hate: She And Rory Don't Talk Every Day
By the start of the revival, Rory is running around all over the world, trying to figure out the next steps for her career. Because of this, though, she and her mother no longer talk as much as they used to. In fact, it's something of an ongoing thing for the two, that they are constantly missing each other and joke about how they rarely see each other any more. Lorelai would accept this as part of her daughter growing up, but she would hate it, just the same.
Proud: She And Rory Are Still Best Friends
Of course, the most important thing to Lorelai has always been Rory, and managing to keep her incredibly close friendship with her daughter would still be her number one priority. And Lorlelai and Rory, despite the fact that they no longe speak quite as often as they used to, are still the absolute best of friends in the revival. No matter what else has happened, Lorelai would be proud of Rory, and their relationship.
