May Calamawy's cut role from Gladiator 2 cut May Calamawy's role down drastically. The final cut only has her visible in the background of a few scenes and without any lines of dialogue.
The reason behind Gladiator 2 reducing Calamawy's role was said to be runtime-related. It would be understandable to assume, though, that this is effectively the end of her time in the franchise. While Scott has made it known that Gladiator 2's ending, the threequel could redeem her position in the series.
Gladiator 3 Could Bring May Calamawy's Character Back To Reveal Her Fate
What Happened To Calamawy's Character In Gladiator 2 Is Unresolved
Since Gladiator 3 is in development, Scott will certainly use the sequel to build on what transpired in Gladiator 2. This should continue with a strong focus on Lucius and his life as Rome's new emperor. There is also the opportunity to resolve lingering plot lines from Gladiator 2, such as what happened to May Calamawy's character. Although she was by Macrinus' side through much of his ascension in the Roman Empire, she is absent from the finale, leaving her fate up in the air.
After some of the backlash to Gladiator 2 cutting Calamawy's role down, it would make sense for Gladiator 3 to bring her back and give her a better showing. Considering Macrinus' plan to gain power and role in killing Geta, those closest to him would surely be drawn into questioning after his demise. One of Lucius' earliest acts as Emperor could be deciding what will become of Calamawy's character if she is still alive and her whereabouts are known. There's also the chance that she fled Rome. In either case, Gladiator 3 should reveal her fate.
May Calamawy's Return In Gladiator 3 Could Extend Macrinus' Plan
A Theory Suggests Calamawy's Character Is Closely Tied To Him
Gladiator 3 bringing May Calamawy back could also be a chance to have her extend Macrinus' plan. Since she was part of his group, it would not be surprising if she shared his ideas and wanted to achieve a similar goal. There's even a Gladiator 2 theory that Calamawy was Macrinus' daughter. That would make her return in Gladiator 3 all the more important, as the character could look to fulfill Macrinus' mission and acquire the power that her mentor or father held for only a short period of time.
This could even be a way for Gladiator 3 to build on Macrinus' real history. In real life, Macrinus ruled Rome with his son as a co-emperor. Gladiator 2 does not explore this part of his life, but Calamawy returning means Gladiator 3 could. The threequel could confirm the connection between the two characters and reveal that she was promised a place of leadership within the Roman Empire alongside Macrinus. This could even set her up to be the main villain of Gladiator 3 who moves to take down Lucius, which would be an exciting development after Calamawy's reduced role.
