Creator of the Knives Out franchise, Rian Johnson, has explained the subtle reference in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery to his Peacock series starring Natasha Lyonne, Poker Face. Daniel Craig reprised his role as Detective Benoit Blanc in the Knives Out stand-alone sequel, Glass Onion, alongside a stellar cast of actors, including Janelle Monae, Kate Hudson, Edward Norton, Kathryn Hahn, Ethan Hawke, Leslie Odom Jr., and Madelyn Cline, in which he takes on a new murder mystery doubling as a commentary on the complicated yet frivolous lives of the uber-wealthy. The sequel's star-studded cast extends to its surprising celebrity cameos, including Johnson's close friend and recent collaborator, Lyonne, who appeared as herself on a Zoom call with Stephen Sondheim, Angela Lansbury, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, representing Detective Blanc's close circle of friends.

In an interview with a reference to her Poker Face character. Check out what he had to say below:

"You ready for a real kind of reality twist? So in the cameo in ‘Glass Onion,’ she’s playing herself — but she’s in hair and makeup as Charlie in her trailer in between setups on the set on the set of ‘Poker Face. So in the world of ‘Glass Onion,’ ‘Poker Face’ is a show that his friend Natasha is shooting. It’s a twisted web that we weave."

Following the global successes of both Knives Out and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Johnson has confirmed his interest in expanding the franchise's universe. Just earlier this month the director expressed his enthusiasm for a fan proposed Knives Out 3 holiday special. While there is no word on when to expect a third installment of the triumphant series, Johnson promises another mystery that is equally humorous as it is subversive.

What To Expect From Poker Face

Until Johnson releases another entry into the Knives Out franchise, his latest project, Poker Face, is expected to deliver more engrossing mysteries marked with his signature humorous touch. Lyonne, previously known for her lead role in Russian Doll, stars as Charlie Cale, a former poker player turned detective who is chased across the country due to her unique and threatening ability to detect when someone is lying. As she avoids the wrath of her enemies, Cale encounters complex mysteries in each episode which Johnson has revealed will follow the howcatchem, or inverted detective story, format.

Alongside Lyonne, the Poker Face cast includes Adrien Brody, Stephanie Hsu, Chloe Sevigny, Judith Light, Jameela Jamil, Joseph Gordon Levitt, and Lil Rey Howery. The season of the mystery series was executive produced by Lyonne and will be comprised of 10 episodes, each featuring an individual mystery. The first four episodes Poker Face will arrive to Peacock on January 26.
