Santa Monica Studio's 2018 smash-hit next installment in the God Of War franchise, it has been hard at work to develop the PS5 update that's set to release tomorrow.
God Of War was released exclusively for the PlayStation 4 in 2018, and those playing on the PS4 Pro were given the choice between two graphical settings. Players could choose between the option that focused on performance over resolution and one that favored graphical quality over performance. The game has since been made part of the PlayStation Plus Collection which is a catalog of games given to PS Plus for free. PlayStation 5 owners could play God Of War via backward compatibility with the graphics set to high resolution and see little performance loss.
However, Santa Monica Studios announced that a patch would be released for free for PS5 s that would replace the two settings with a new "default" option that will favor both performance and visual quality. The God of War PS5 update drops tomorrow, February 2nd, and boasts syncing to 60 FPS, 4K Checkerboard Resolution, and 2160p . Santa Monica Studios notes that the 4K and 2160p upgrades are only available on devices that can those resolutions.
Alongside the announcement Santa Monica Studios has released a couple of screenshots of the PS5 4K patch in action, and it looks phenomenal. Players who have already played through the game can experience it in a new light on PS5, and those who haven't can add the game to their library for free if they are a PS Plus member. Santa Monica Studios states that its team has worked hard on this update to ensure that players get the most out of the enhanced performance capabilities of the PS5.
God Of War was already a phenomenal experience in 2018, and it continues to provide a thrilling, heartwarming, and entertaining adventure almost three years later. Many players have played through the game multiple times to experience the beautiful world of Midgar over and over, and now they can do so while looking through a different lens. Now players can relive every action-packed moment of God Of War in crystal clear 4K at 60 FPS.
