The long-awaited follow-up to 2018's immaculate God of War is finally almost here. God of War Ragnarok promises to conclude the series' Norse saga in a grand fashion, with Kratos and Atreus finally coming face to face with the Norse pantheon.

The end of God of War teased the appearance of Thor, but as pre-release materials have shown, the god of thunder himself may only be the tip of the iceberg when it comes to mythological foes. With old allies returning and new foes certain to emerge, here are all of the characters confirmed to appear in God of War Ragnarok, at least so far.

Kratos And Atreus

Of course, the two leads of the 2018 game were always destined to return for the sequel. Given the two's journey in the first game, and Kratos' fantastic voiceover work from Christopher Judge, Ragnarok is likely to take the Ghost of Sparta and his boy in several new directions.

Especially with the reveal of Atreus' destiny as Loki at the end of the first game, it is almost certain that he will be an instrumental part of the war against the Aesir.

Mimir

Everyone's favorite severed head will once again be at Kratos' side, probably quite literally, in Ragnarok. In Norse mythology, Mimir was the wisest of all the gods, and Odin kept his severed head to hear his wise words.

In God of War, Mimir's head is instead a companion and guide to Kratos. Since he is responsible for some of God of War's most profound quotes, Mimir is sure to be just an indispensable ally to players.

Brok And Sindri

Two more returning cast , the Huldra brothers Brok and Sindri are also on the roster for Ragnarok. The dwarven brothers played major roles in the first game, helping to supply Kratos with upgrades, resources, and often some valuable information.

It is unclear what kind of role the brothers will play in the sequel, but it is almost certain that they will be no small part of Kratos and Aterus' journey.

Skjolder

Skjolder is a new addition to the God of War cast. According to mythology, Skjolder (also spelled Skjöldr), was one of the first legendary Danish kings. There are various differing variants of Skjolder's story, but most famously he is a son of Odin who gave his name to the lineage of Danish kings.

Skjolder will be voiced by A.J. LoCascio, and while there is no indication of what he will be in the game, being a son of Odin is likely to put him at odds with Kratos.

Freya

The queen of the Valkyries, played by Danielle Bisutti, will make her inevitable return in Ragnarok as well. While she was one of Kratos' closest allies in the first Norse game, Freya vowed revenge after the death of her son Baldur in the game's climax.

Even though Freya has itted that she has no love for her former husband Odin, since the trailer has already shown Freya and Kratos clashing blades, her revenge may be meted out in one of God of War's hardest boss fights.

Angrboda

God Of War Ragnarok Angrboda

Angrboda has been built up to be one of the most important new characters coming in Ragnarok. In Norse mythology, Anrgboda is the wife of Loki, the mother of Fenrir, Jormungandr, and the goddess of death Hel.

Laya Deleon Hayes is set to play the game's incarnation, where her relationship with Atreus will no doubt be a key focus of the story.

Ratotoskr

Ratotoskr is an odd figure in Norse mythology, yet he actually did have a cameo in the 2018 game as a particularly snarky runic summon. Ratotoskr is a squirrel whose sole purpose is to run around the Tree of Life and deliver messages, most often insults, between the Norse gods.

It is yet to be seen whether Ratotoskr will return only in runic form or as a full character, but either way he will definitely be a hilarious addition to the cast.

Hrist And Mist

Given that the Valkyries ended up being harder than God of War's final boss, players might be nervous to learn that the addition of Hrist and Mist proves that Kratos' problems with the warriors are not over just yet. Hrist and Mist are two of the most legendary valkyries in Norse mythology.

According to some ancient sources, they are in charge of bringing Odin his horn of battle. Hrist and Mist will be played by Erica Lindbeck and Mara Junot, and are almost certain to be a difficult hurdle between players and Odin.

The Norns

The Norns are the Norse equivalent of the Greek Fates, the demigoddesses of destiny. The Norns are said to decide the destiny of every god, human, and creature in the realms.

They also help to slow the decay of the Yggdrasill Tree that holds the realms together, which could be a major plot point in the game. Two of the Norns, Skuld and Urd, have been confirmed to the cast already, voiced by Shelby Young and Kate Miller respectively.

Byggvir

Byggvir is a very minor part of Norse mythology and is only mentioned in one ancient source. Byggvir is a servant of the god Freyr, who is often written as a Vanir god and the brother of Freya.

Byggvir could have any number of roles in God of War Ragnarok, but his inclusion also implies that Freyr might make an appearance as well, which would certainly add a new layer to Freya's character and the heirarchy of the gods.
