The God of War Ragnarok Collector's Edition includes an exciting selection of physical and digital items, but scalpers are unfortunately buying up these editions for financial gain.
The impressive Collector's Editions of God of War Ragnarok were recently revealed alongside the title's November 2022 release date. The standard Collector's Edition includes a digital version of the game, a steelbook display case, a digital soundtrack and various in-game rewards. Physical props included in the Collector's Edition include wood carvings of the Vanir gods Freya and Freyr, a set of dwarven dice and a 16-inch scale replica of Thor's hammer Mjolnir. The even more prestigious Jotnar Edition of God of War Ragnarok includes additional physical items, like Brok and Sindri's dice and Odin's Draupnir ring. A beautifully illustrated God of War Ragnarok Collector's Edition map, which depicts all Nine Realms in their mystic glory, rounds out the game's special editions.
As reported by Video Games Chronicle, scalpers are already buying out God of War Ragnarok Collector's Editions and reselling them at enormously inflated prices. The Jotnar Edition of the game is being sold in Australia for $399.99 AUD, but scalpers are now reselling it for up to $1500 AUD. The United Kingdom is experiencing a similar problem, with the £220 Jotnar Edition being sold out and resold for as much as £600. As pre-orders continue to open up around the world, God of War Ragnarok fans may find it very difficult to secure a Collector's or Jotnar Edition of the highly anticipated sequel for a fair price.
Pre-ordering the Collector's Editions of God of War Ragnarok is now a challenge, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Special Edition scalpers have caused similar headaches. The action RPG recently received a second wave of pre-order opportunities, but scalpers immediately bought out many of these copies. Like with God of War Ragnarok's Collector's Editions, these exclusive pre-orders were then sold on auction sites like eBay for massively inflated prices. The second round of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Special Edition pre-orders restricted each buyer to only one copy, however, which helped slightly reduce the scalper issue.
God of War Ragnarok's Collector's Editions include a huge bounty of digital and physical items, making them very appealing to collectors and fans of the series. However, scalpers have made it very difficult for gamers to pre-order the bundles at a reasonable price. Paying three times the market price for a Collector's Edition is ridiculous, but scalpers have left some God of War fans with no other choice.
God of War Ragnarok will release on November 9, 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
