Although it was only announced in September of last year, God of War: Ragnarok is set to release sometime in 2021. Despite this, gameplay footage from the game hasn’t been shown yet. However, based on some God of War releases, as well as the game’s release window, a gameplay trailer could be shared soon.

God of War: Ragnarok was announced less than six months ago, and it’s already become one of the biggest games releasing in 2021. The game will be a direct sequel to 2018’s God of War, and expectations are already extremely high. However, most other details are pretty scarce right now. With a targeted release window of 2021, though, gameplay footage should be shown soon. So when should fans expect to actually see something?

Recent hires for God of War: Ragnarok, including The Last of Us Part 2's sound designer Beau Anthony Jimenez earlier this month,  all suggest the game is heavily underway. While delays in the industry have been increasingly common due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it looks as if God of War: Ragnarok will still release sometime this year. Based on the lack of news, though, it seems like a late 2021 release date is most likely, which means gameplay could be shown very soon.

When God Of War: Ragnarok's Gameplay Could Be Shown

Assuming God of War: Ragnarok is still releasing in 2021, gameplay should be shown in the next few months. A gameplay trailer could be featured during Sony's next State of Play, which seems like a good time to show off a big-name title like the God of War sequel. So far, Sony hasn't confirmed when another State of Play will occur, although one should be happening very soon.

Another aspect to consider is that God of War: Fallen God, from Dark Horse Comics, is set to release on March 10th, 2021. Gameplay footage for Ragnarok could be shown around the same time, to coincide with Fallen Gods' release. However, it's more likely that footage for Ragnarok will be saved until later, so as not to steal Fallen Gods' proverbial thunder. That means fans may have to wait until April or even May of 2021 to see actual gameplay from God of War: Ragnarok, depending on how the comic affects releasing more news of the game.

For now, there's been no official word on when gameplay from God of War: Ragnarok will be shown. However, given the game's 2021 release window, more footage should be shared sooner rather than later. Whenever Sony does have another State of Play, there's a good chance the fifth God of War game will be a part of it.
