Counterplay Games has posted a brief video to YouTube showing the weapon-switching ability and flashy combat featured in still know very little about the game despite the fact it is due to release later this year.

Godfall was the very first game announced for the PlayStation 5. Developed by Counterplay Games and published by Gearbox, it has been described as a looter-slasher and takes inspiration from popular first-person shooters like Destiny and Borderlands, which feature looting as a primary mechanic. Set in a fantasy world that is split between the different elemental powers of Earth, Water, Air, Fire, and Spirit, players will take on the role of an exalted knight trying to prevent the end of the world.

Godfall developer clearly been inspired by Dark Souls. The trailer, which can be seen in full below, features a brief duel between the protagonist and a large enemy. Importantly, it demonstrates how players can quickly swap between various weapons during combat, overwhelming the opponent with a wide array of different attacks. Recorded in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, the footage also gives a good indication of what Godfall might look like on the PlayStation 5 with the beefed-up hardware.

While Counterplay Games has been pretty quiet about what fans can expect from Godfall, the studio has made it clear that the title will not feature microtransactions. During a gameplay walkthrough at the start of August, game director Keith Lee promised that the game would not contain microtransactions. Instead, the developer wants players to feel a sense of accomplishment when they unlock loot through mastering the gameplay rather than simply purchasing it.

Since it was first revealed last year, Godfall has managed to attract a strong cult following. This was helped by the fact it was the first new IP announced for the next-gen console. Trailers like this are likely an attempt to appeal to a wider audience in the run-up to the game's launch later this year.  If Counterplay Games can keep putting out exciting footage that shows off what looks to be excellent gameplay in the future, the studio is sure to attract more players.
