Godzilla vs. Kong graphic novel prequel Godzilla: Dominion, a story which explores what Godzilla was up to after he took down Ghidorah and became the alpha of the Titans.
When Ghidorah let out his call in King of the Monsters, he unleashed a whopping number of Titans on the MonsterVerse. Four of these creatures – Methuselah, Behemoth, Scylla, and a third MUTO – were shown wreaking havoc all over the planet. At the end of the movie, they ed Rodan in bowing down to Godzilla. They were the only original Titans in the scene, but there were actually several other monsters that Ghidorah was able to reach. Monitor screens at Monarch’s base confirmed that 11 more Titans based on various myths and legends heard it as well. King of the Monsters’ missing Titans are Amhuluk, Tiamat, Yamata no Orochi, Bunyip, Abaddon, Mokele-Mbembe, Sekhmet, Leviathan, Quetzalcoatl, Baphomet, Tiamat, and Typhon.
Since none actually appeared in the flesh, fans didn’t get to find out what these monsters are or what they looked like. However, two of the Titans were unveiled,at last, in the pages of Godzilla: Dominion. While in the Amazon rainforest, Godzilla discovered that Behemoth was caught in a struggle with Amhuluk, a vicious beast with tentacles hanging off of his face and tree-like appendages growing off of his body. After stepping in to defend Behemoth, Godzilla was able to force Amhuluk into submitting.
Later in the story, Godzilla was underwater when he came across Tiamat, the Titan that was said to have escaped from the Stone Mountain outpost in King of the Monsters. Thanks to Dominion, it’s now known that Tiamat is a large sea serpent who possesses the ability to shoot toxic spray from its mouth. The monster proved to be a formidable opponent, as even Godzilla was challenged by her physical might in the water. But in the end, Tiamat too recognized Godzilla’s superiority and backed down.
It’s good to finally have a clear image of two of King of the Monsters’ mysterious, unseen Titans. Their mythological connections provided some clues about their identities, but it was hard to say definitively what kind of creatures they would be. To a Native American tribe located in Oregon, Amhuluk was described as a four-legged, reptilian creature covered in spots who drowned anything that came near its habitat. The MonsterVerse version of Amhuluk looks nothing like this, but his hostile behavior does draw some comparisons to the monster from the old legends. As for Tiamat, Akkadian mythology depicts her as the goddess of the ocean, with some stories painting her as a female water dragon. At least in her case, her appearance in the MonsterVerse isn’t that far off from what many expected. Now that these two mysteries have been solved, it’s possible that more of Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ 11 missing Titans will stand revealed as the MonsterVerse continues.
