What To Expect From The New Empire's Big Set Pieces

2014's Godzilla approached the titular monster in a much darker and more serious way than many of the sequels, and the kaiju was treated as a villain for a large portion of the film's runtime. Trailers for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire have affirmed that this new film won't be taking that same approach. With Wingard returning as director, the sequel seems to most take after Godzilla vs. Kong, which put a big emphasis on bold, colorful action sequences.

In particular, the new film has a lot in common with the Godzilla vs. Kong ending fight, which features the two titans teaming up to take down Mechagodzilla. That final fight played out mostly at night, however, in the neon-lit city of Hong Kong. From what's been released thus far, The New Empire seems to primarily take place in daylight, meaning audiences will seemingly have a clearer view of the action than any previous installment.

Also similar to the previous film is that some of the action in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will take place in the Hollow Earth. Kong's dominion over this realm is challenged by the Skar King, and this is where he will sustain the arm injury that leads to his mechanical enhancement. The mechanical arm, too, is sure to make fight sequences more interesting as Kong puts his exoskeletal addition to good use.
