Will Ferrell will star in Golf for Netflix, marking the actor's first ever scripted comedy TV show. Ferrell is one of the most widely known comedic actors working in Hollywood today. After getting his start on SNL, Ferrell would star in movies like Anchorman, Old School, Elf, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and Step Brothers, among many others. For the last two decades, however, the actor's talents have mostly been limited to the world of feature films.
Netflix now reveals that Ferrell is set to headline his first ever scripted comedy series with Golf. While few plot details have been revealed, the actor will be playing a "fictional golf legend" in the show. Check out Netflix's post on X, formerly Twitter, about the series below:
The Netflix social media post also confirms that the show will consist of 10 episodes, and that it's co-created by Ramy Youssef and Josh Rabinowitz. Knives Out director Rian Johnson also serves as an executive producer.
A Netflix Comedy Show Is Perfect For Will Ferrell
Theatrical Comedies Aren't As Common As They Once Were
While the early 2000s was a great time for theatrically-released comedy movies, it's no secret that the genre is no longer what it once was as a draw for theater-goers. Strays, for example, a comedy about talking dogs in which Ferrell played a voice-only role, was a box office flop last year. These days, pure comedies tend to work better on streaming.

Will Ferrell’s Next Movie Will Redeem His $46 Million Bomb From Last Year (& Can Beat His 10-Year-Old Box Office Record)
Will Ferrell's next major movie can make up for one of 2023's biggest box office bombs, while also breaking a personal box office for the actor.
As the leader in the streaming service landscape, Netflix is well-positioned to get Ferrell's new show in front of as many eyes as possible. As one of the funniest actors working in Hollywood, Ferrell is the perfect actor to lead a Netflix original comedy series. On the surface, Golf appears to be a match made in heaven.
Another good sign for the show is Ferrell's lead character. Although few details are known about Golf's protagonist, Ferrell has previously played "legends" in different field to great effect. He played a NASCAR legend, for example, in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, a figure skating legend in Blades of Glory, and a titan of the nightly news space in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Many questions remain about Golf, but the series already shows a great deal of promise.
