Fans were disappointed when NBC's hit show The Good Place came to an end. The show was loved for its engaging storyline, dynamic characters, and hilarious subject matter. The show managed to touch on some deep and meaningful topics while giving fans plenty to laugh about.
Each character had moments in the show that were truly hilarious, with each one touching on a different sense of humor. Chidi was intelligent and anxious, often providing candid remarks about his feelings and the ridiculousness of the situations the characters found themselves in. While many of his lines were hilarious, here are some of the best.
"Okay, I've Made My Decision. I Want To, Start Crying"
Chidi famously struggled to make decisions. When returned to Earth to prove that they can become better, the season begins by showing how each character is doing. Without the entire group together, it is clear that these characters struggle to grow. One of the opening sequences shows Chidi struggling to order a smoothie, leading to this hilarious line.
"I Did That, I Cleaned The Dishes."
Chidi is a comionate and helpful person, but he does not rub this in the faces of others. During the first season, Eleanor was extremely self-centered and did not seem to notice or appreciate everything Chidi was doing for her.
When things in the neighborhood began to go wrong, Chidi began fed up with Eleanor. As Eleanor complains about how everything is beginning to go wrong, she mentions how annoyed she is that the dishes stopped magically cleaning themselves every night. Here, Chidi hilariously reveals that it was him doing the dishes the entire time.
"Well, They Enslaved My Country For 300 years. So, No."
During the first season, Chidi and Tahani both have trouble connecting to their "soulmate." They begin to notice the similarities they share and believe they may be a better fit for each other. With encouragement, the two decide to go out on a date with each other. But this date does not go as well as they would have hoped as the two begin to realize they are not as alike as they originally thought.
During one moment in the disastrously awkward date, Tahani begins to talk about her love for and asks Chidi if he feels the same way. Due to his cultural background, Chidi bluntly delivers this line.
"Well, I've Narrowed It Down To Two Possibilities. Yes And No."
There are many hilarious moments in which Chidi struggles to make a decision. His uncertainty and hesitation said in a number of different ways, and yet, the joke never gets old. When pressed to make a decision, he often seems like he is going to make one. But that is when we get hilarious ones like this in which Chidi really hasn't narrowed down his choices at all.
"Okay. But That's Worse. You, You Do Get How That's Worse, Right?"
As Chidi and Eleanor get to know each other, he struggles to find at least one irable quality about her so that he can justify his decision to help her stay in the good place. He begins to questions Eleanor about her life and she shares information about her job.
When Chidi learns that Eleanor defrauded the sick and elderly by selling them fake medicine, he is appalled. But Eleanor tries to make a case for herself by explaining that she was very good at her job, which prompts Chidi to say this amusing line.
"But Did I At Least Choose The Right One"
When the Soul Squad initially appeals to The Judge, she decides to give them all tests to see if they really have improved. Each human got a test tailored to their weakness. As Chidi's weakness was decision making, The Judge simply put him in a room and asked him to chose a hat.
Unfortunately, Chidi fails his test because it took him 82 minutes to make a decision, he asks for so that he can improve. The Judge expresses her dissatisfaction with the amount of time it took him to make the selection to which Chidi is remarkably still focused on whether or not he made the correct decision, despite the fact that there was no right or wrong choice.
"Well, How Can I Say No? Ya, I Know How I Would Say No. I'd Be All Like, No!"
When the soul squad is forced to travel to the bad place, they disguise themselves as torturers to fit in. One demon mistakes Chidi for an old friend named Trent whom he believes is an expert at torture. He approaches Chidi and asks him to help his group of friends come up with creative new ways to torture people.
Chidi faces an ethical dilemma as he does not want to contribute to the pain and suffering of another human being but is worried about blowing his cover. Though he eventually comes up with the idea to torture the human by forcing them to read, he originally panics about the situation, delivering this line.
"This Broke Me The Dot Over The Eye. That Broke Me. I'm, I'm Done."
After the humans discover something weird is going on, they confront Michael and Janet and force them to explain what is going on. As Eleanor, Tahani, Jason, and Chidi had their memories wiped, Michael and Janet have to reexplain everything to the group.
As the humans ask questions to get more clarification, the idea of time comes up and Michael explains that time isn't linear. He draws a picture to show that time moves in a Jeremy Bearimy way. Apparently, the dot over the "I" is too much for Chidi to handle and he has a breakdown.
"Oh Well That's Reassuring Because Some Of The Parts Of The Fake People Flew Into My Mouth"
One of the most hilarious episodes is when Michael creates a simulation of the trolley problem. This proves to be incredibly nerve-wracking for Chidi, as he is continuously forced into situations where he seems to be running over people. Michael explains that there is no need for Chidi to worry as the people are simulations, which is no comfort to Chidi.
"I Hate Your Boots..."
Chidi often dwells on things that others wouldn't give a second thought. When his colleague Henry asks Chidi for his opinion on his boots, he lies and says that he likes them. But Chidi believes lying is wrong in any situation and he is guilt-ridden as he watches Henry wear his boots. Eventually, Henry ends up in the hospital and Chidi fears he may die before he gets to tell him the truth about his boots.
While Henry is lying in the hospital bed on the mend, Chidi decides to come clean and delivers a hysterical speech about how much he hates the boots. The full priceless quote by Chidi is "I hate your boots. I told you that I loved your boots three years ago, and I was lying, and that lie has haunted me ever since. And people tried to tell me it was fine, just a nice little white lie in the form of social niceties but I disagreed. And then yesterday I thought you were gonna die but now you're not dead and I can finally be honest and say that those boots are terrible and hideous and I hate them." Iconic Chidi.
