Nothing quite beats the fashion on Gossip Girl. Simply put, the show's main highlight (for the original as well as the reboot) has always been and will always be the extravagant clothes that the characters flaunt from the biggest designers. Gossip Girl characters like Blair, Serena, Jenny, Lily, and Ivy have been veritable fashion tastemakers since their debuts in the series, and these looks have now become iconic. Even the new guard, namely Zoya, Julien, Luna, and Audrey have some sartorial tricks up their sleeve.
Each season of Gossip Girl had a distinctive fashion feel to it, and there were certain outfits that stood out in every one. All the characters' wardrobes evolved, and some ensembles were just too good to be true.
Season 1: Blair's School Uniforms
The first season of Gossip Girl featured outfits that were ahead of their time, and Blair ruled the school with her fabulous school uniforms. No two days were the same for her, and her uniforms were an eclectic but polished mix of preppy pieces like blazers with big collars, Victorian capes, red and blue palettes, tights, and nautical jackets.
Headbands, bows, and berets were ubiquitous in her closet, and Blair's trendy Constance uniforms sparked a fashion revolution in 2007, with fans scrambling to get her sophisticated style.
Season 2: Serena's Preppy Blazer Look
Serena was not really a jeans and coat kind of girl, but her carefully casual look for Yale was nothing short of amazing. The white and blue striped Ralph Lauren blazer was a refreshing change from her usual bohemian silhouettes, but she made her mark on the outfit with a plunging white silk top and skinny jeans with boots.
The green oversized bag was also a Serena signature, and this outfit was probably one of her more practical choices in the show. Perhaps because she was getting ready to fight Blair for a spot at the university, which summed up their sometimes toxic friendship well.
Season 3: Jenny's Lacy Pastel Dress
Fans really witnessed Jenny Humphrey's evolution from girl-next-door to badass gothic Barbie, and this perfect dress really encapsulated that change. The mint Marchesa dress featured interesting crisscross detailing with swathes of fabric that draped down to her toes, and bits of lace peeked from in between.
The gorgeous dress went perfectly with her platinum hair and dark makeup. It was accessorized with a Lia Sophia cuff and Ginette NY rings to add edge to the otherwise feminine dress. It was a perfect ensemble to wear while scheming with Chuck, and definitely one of the best Jenny Humphrey outfits on Gossip Girl.
Season 4: Blair's Blazing Red Gown
The whole of season 4 of Gossip Girl culminated into one moment — Blair standing in front of Chuck at a train station in Paris, beseeching him to return to his Upper East Side life and to her, but as a friend. The reason why the scene was imprinted in people's minds was because of the stunning scarlet Oscar de la Renta gown she sported in it.
The strapless gown with delicate ruching and frills was entirely out of place in the crowded station, but that's what made it memorable. Paired with a pink Harry Winston necklace and purse, it was an absolute scene-stealer.
Season 5: Ivy's Glittering Debut Gown
Serena and Blair were not the only ones blessed with legendary fashion moments. Serena's fake cousin, Ivy Dickens, got a taste of the Upper East Side and sported some fantastic clothing as well. The highlight of her acting tenure as Charlie Rhodes was her debut gown, a rose-gold sheath with the most intricate beading on the bodice and sleeves.
The shimmering gown was by Badgley Mischka and accessorized with floral-inspired earrings, a cocktail ring, and a gold clutch in the same gold tones as the dress.
Season 6: Serena's Gilded Wedding Dress
The It Girl's love for all things gold wasn't really a secret, so it was no surprise that she decided to don a white ruffled gown with splashes of bright gold across the top of the dress for her nuptials. Designed by Georges Chakras, this gown encapsulated Serena's essence perfectly and was the best of her gilded outfits through all the seasons.
With a signature messy bun and gold heels, she really made the look her own. Even while getting married, she looked every bit as glamorous as she was in the first season, and this outfit could not be forgotten.
Gossip Girl Reboot Season 1: Zoya's Orange Sequined Dress
Since the show has been rebooted and also features some new-age yet beautiful fashion, it would be remiss to not include it in a roundup, especially since the first season of Gossip Girl 2021 is done and dusted. While a lot of athleisure and oversized clothing made it into the wardrobes of the newest gang, Zoya's neon orange dress was the highlight of the season.
The Alex Perry dress was extremely unexpected on the otherwise laidback Zoya, and paired with a Jimmy Choo candy bag and strappy heels, the look was very fashion show-appropriate and made her look like one of the gang.
