The original Gossip Girl was a treasure trove of great characters, and each of them had their own quirks and unique traits. No character ever stayed in a single place much, especially Serena and Nate who were shuffling between their own homes and their best friends' lavish pads for college or when tragedy struck.
However, not all of these iconic characters would be fun to live with; in fact, certain players might be downright intolerable to have as roommates because of the spoilt lifestyles that they've led, while others would be ideal folks to bunk with and have a great time.
Great Roommate: Serena Van Der Woodsen
Serena was always shuffling between the Bass apartment, Chuck's suite at The Empire Hotel, and Blair's decadent home, so she had plenty of practice at how to be a good housemate, if not a roomie. However, with the It Girl's ebullient personality and her ready-for-anything nature, it's obvious that she would be great to live with.
Serena would likely go out a lot and invite her roommates with her to fabulous parties. Conversely, she wouldn't hesitate to curl up with a tub of ice cream and vintage movies if her roommate needed some comforting. She would be a great one.
Terrible Roommate: Chuck Bass
While Chuck was more than happy to have Nate live with him at The Empire Hotel, it only worked because they had a large suite with several rooms — and that Nate was tolerant of Chuck's escapades.
Living with Chuck Bass in one room would be a nightmare, and he would most likely not be considerate when it comes to keeping the volume of his hard partying down. It's also not hard to deduce that Chuck would take over any space without much care for his roommate.
Great Roommate: Dan Humphrey
Dan was no stranger to having his friends over at the loft in Brooklyn, and he had let several people including Georgina, Serena, Vanessa, Blair, and Nate crash with him when they needed to escape the drama of the Upper East Side. Dan was welcoming and warm and went to great lengths to make his guests comfortable, so he would be great as a roommate.
He would recommend some great books to the person he lived with and spend most of his time writing quietly (or being Gossip Girl on the sly), and make breakfast for everyone if he was feeling like it. Dan may be a "nice guy," but he could also be a legitimately good person.
Terrible Roommate: Jenny Humphrey
Dan's unpredictable sibling would not be the ideal person to live with. Notorious for her descent upon Serena's old room as soon as she cleared out, Jenny would hog all the space in the room with her sewing equipment and dresses.
Her bad habits would also be problematic as she had previously dealt drugs with Damien and consorted with Juliet and Vanessa to trick Serena, so anybody who lived with Jenny would have to be on their toes and be cautious not to get on her bad side, which would make her a pretty bad roommate. Jenny doesn't deserve the hate, but one must be careful around her.
Great Roommate: Nate Archibald
Personable, mild, and always up for a good time, Nate is the quintessential roommate with whom everybody wants to bunk. Dismissed by many as just a pretty face, Nate is one of the most caring people on Gossip Girl.
He became fast friends with Dan and lived with him at the loft, and permanently lodged at Chuck's suite after that. Nate usually minds his own business and is up for a quick drink and other recreational activities. He is big on sports, so he might even encourage his roommate to in and get some exercise.
Terrible Roommate: Georgina Sparks
The last time Georgina roomed with somebody, she was pregnant, lied about the baby being theirs, and then left the baby in their care while she went for a beach vacation. Poor Dan had to put up with Georgina's tricks, and there's no way Georgina, with her conspiratorial plans, would be a good roommate to anyone.
She even roomed with Blair briefly at NYU to torture her, which is proof that she could be quite scary to be around. Georgina's habit of drugging her friends' drinks is also a red flag to stay far away from her. She may be a villain everyone loved on Gossip Girl, but she is not roommate material.
Great Roommate: Rufus Humphrey
For fans of waffles, chili, and a host of other breakfast foods, Rufus is the best roommate one could ask for. A comforting meal, a shoulder to cry on, some unsolicited advice, and the paternal warmth of the Humphrey patriarch is always welcome, and he would provide whatever his roommate needed.
Most importantly, being a former classic rock band member, Rufus would be able to provide some great tunes and free entertainment as a cohabitant. He would be the perfect roommate.
Terrible Roommate: Lily Bass
Lily is a lady with great taste, so she may decorate a living area well, but she could also be a bit of a control freak so rooming with her may not be such a great idea. She would dictate the décor of the home, how to plan that house party, and even how her co-habitants should live their lives.
Moreover, her huge closet and secret vaults with confidential documents would take up all the space, leaving the one living with her pretty disgruntled.
Great Roommate: Vanessa Abrams
Brooklyn hipster Vanessa may have transformed into a less-than-nice character over the course of Gossip Girl, but she had some great traits that would make her great to cohabitate with. She was free-spirited and non-judgmental, and would mostly keep her side of the room clean and not interfere much with her roommate.
When Vanessa roomed with Olivia Burke in season 3, she was pretty low-key about the fact that Olivia was a big star, and only offered her help and assistance, including Olivia in her and Dan's plans.
Terrible Roommate: Blair Waldorf
Gossip Girl's true Queen B, Blair is not going to room with anyone, ever. Her needs and her space are too important to her, and her burgeoning closet of clothes and shoes, stacks of classic novels, and DVDs of Audrey Hepburn movies would leave scant room for anybody else.
She could barely handle Dorota in her room most times, and even when Serena and she went to Columbia, Blair provided her best friend with a separate bedroom for herself. Chuck would also crash with Blair a lot, and that's something no roommate would ever want to experience.
