With Gotham Knights having a variety of endgame content, it may be worth not rushing into New Game+ once players finish the main story. While many players will want to immediately play through the story again to see how it plays with one of the other Knights at the helm, there are several downsides to doing so. This choice pits players' desire to see the story through a new set of eyes against their desire to 100% complete the game.
Many challenges in Gotham Knights unlock by progressing through the main story, and by activating New Game+, players will lock themselves out of those challenges until they progress the story to the unlock point again. These include activities like Gotham's Most Wanted, Gotham Knights' Court of Owls presenting big problems for the city, and the horrifying Man-Bats patrolling the skies. All of these are locked until at least the second act of the game, and players wishing to complete them and receive the associated trophy or achievement for doing so will be stymied by replaying the story to unlock them again.
The Consequences Of Starting Gotham Knights' New Game+
At the end of Gotham Knights tumultuous story, Gotham City ironically has many more threats to its citizens than it did when it started. The Court of Owls and its undead Talons, the League of Shadows and its teleporting ninjas, and murderous Man-Bat hybrids all emerge in the game's second or third act and remain as threats for the remainder. These take the form of random crimes that the Knights can happen upon that feature the League or the Court instead of the usual Regulators or Freaks. But if a player starts New Game+, these all go back into hiding until their premeditated crimes are unlocked again in Gotham Knights. This can prove frustrating to players wishing to complete achievements or trophies associated with these random encounters, as well as unlock things like fast travel all over again which can be tedious.
There are some benefits of New Game+, though. The level cap is increased to 40, meaning more skills to pour into players preferred skill trees. Luckily for players, Knighthood also carries over, meaning that they won't have to grind random crimes to unlock it again. Gear, blueprints, and collectibles also carry over, meaning any Batarangs or Historia Strigidae pages unlocked during the first run won't have to be found again during the second. The main draw of New Game+ is to replay the story using different Knights than the previous run. If Nightwing was the one dumped into the Court of Owls' maze in the first playthrough, it may be worth playing as Robin next time to see what each of the Gotham Knights characters see in the Court's labyrinth.
New Game+ can be a fun way to replay the game without losing the progress of a previous playthrough. Gotham Knights offers that by allowing players to keep their progression mostly intact during the second playthrough, with a few bonuses like increased enemy level to keep things interesting. While that can be a fun way to re-experience the story, it is important to that much of the end-game enemy encounter content is locked behind story progression, and won't be available until the knights stumble across the Court of Owls or League of Shadows again.
