WB Games Montréal, the developer of Batman is really dead in Gotham Knights, the game will reportedly explore what the Caped Crusader's rogues become without their worst enemy.

Gotham Knights will feature a brand-new version of Gotham crafted by WB Games Montréal, the studio that created 2013's Batman: Arkham Origins. Players will be free to choose between the game's four playable heroes, with each possessing their own strengths and combat abilities. Red Hood will wield dual pistols and supernatural powers, for example, while Nightwing will focus on acrobatic melee combat and traverse with his glider the Flying Trapeze. Gotham Knights will also feature a wide range of villains like Mr. Freeze, the Penguin and the mysterious Court of Owls. While developers recently confirmed that Gotham Knights won't feature Joker, other iconic Batman foes will reportedly weigh in on the hero's death.

In an exclusive interview with Comic Book Resources, Gotham Knights director Patrick Redding reveals that the game will show Batman's villains react to his death. Redding explains that each villain in the game was chosen by WB Games Montréal based on their unique and specific relationship to the Dark Knight. With their greatest enemy gone, these villains will need to reassess where they fit into Gotham and the DC Comics universe. Redding also teases that there are many Gotham Knights villains yet to be announced, with a new foe set to be revealed soon.

Gotham Knights Explores A World Without Batman

In another interview with Comic Book Resources, Patrick Redding recently teased a possible Damian Wayne appearance in Gotham KnightsIntroduced by DC Comics in 2006, the popular character is depicted as the fourth prominent Robin and the son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul. Given the character's popularity many fans have questioned whether Damian will show up in Gotham Knights, either as a cameo or a fifth playable hero. Redding claims that discussing Damian would be a major spoiler, however, teasing that the son of Batman may actually be in the game.

Gotham Knights will focus on Batman's key allies coping with his death, but it seems that the mourning will not stop there. Many of the Dark Knight's greatest villains will also appear, and their reactions to their nemesis' demise will apparently play a big role in the game. Without Batman, Gotham Knights will feature truly unique versions of Gotham's greatest villains.
