No one in the DC Universe has a better or more famous collection of villains than bad guys like Two-Face or the Riddler, a lot of the Caped Crusader’s foes do, in fact, have superpowers.

For all the chaos in Batman’s rogues’ gallery that have superpowers.

10 Killer Croc is More Than an Unfortunate Mutant

Created by: Gerry Conway, Don Newton, and Gene Colan

Killer Croc reaches out with bloody hands in a DC Comic

Skulking around in Gotham’s sewers is Waylon Jones aka, the mutated man-eater Killer Croc. Jones was born with a rare skin condition that worsened over time. Originally giving him a scaly, crocodile-like appearance, his condition grew until Jones resembled a large anthropomorphic reptile, leading to his villainous name Killer Croc. But it wasn’t just Jones’ physical appearance that changed, the Batman foe eventually gained a whole panoply of powers.

Killer Croc’s skin is so hard, it’s practically invulnerable and protects him from both long and short range weapons. He’s also got keen reptilian-like senses and also has the ability to regenerate lost limbs. Killer Croc’s greatest asset, however, is his enhanced strength, which is far beyond that of a normal human being. Batman has fought Killer Croc countless times and with Croc’s powers, there’s always a real element of danger for the Dark Knight.

9 Mr. Bloom is an Unpredictable Force of Nature

Created by: Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo

Mister Bloom reels back and looks at the sky in a DC Comic

One of the more recent additions to Batman’s collection of villains is Mr. Bloom. Once a random Gotham citizen, Bloom’s life was changed forever after participating in an experiment that turned him into a metahuman. Bloom spent years honing his powers, only to return to Gotham to sew his particular brand of chaos thanks to seeds he developed to grant others superpowers. But his intelligence is nothing compared to his wide range of powers.

Bloom’s physiology was changed as a result of being experimented on and he can do unnatural things with his body, such as stretch his body and even grow to the size of buildings. He’s also incredibly durable and has survived explosions and being shot by high caliber ammunition. If that weren’t enough, Bloom can even project ice and fire, the latter of which was hot enough to melt armor designed by Batman.

8 Doctor Phosphorus is a Toxic Nightmare to Everyone Around Him

Created by: Steve Englehart and Walt Simonson

Doctor Phosphorus in DC Comics and the DC Universe

Thanks to an accident involving a nuclear reactor, Alex Sartorius was permanently transformed into the glowing, radioactive threat known as Doctor Phosphorus. Phosphorus’ body constantly glows with radiation, giving him a ghoulish appearance as his translucent skin reveals his skeleton underneath. But the creepiness factor is nothing compared to the true danger he presents to Batman and the rest of Gotham as a walking, talking atomic bomb.

Doctor Phosphorus constantly emits radiation, and he mastered his powers to kill people with so much as a single touch. He later bargained with the demon Neron in the event Underworld Unleashed and became able to project radiation in deadly blasts or use radiation to create offensive or defensive weapons. As a living nuclear reactor, Doctor Phosphorus is also basically immortal, making him a recurring and extremely serious Batman villain.

7 Man-Bat Tragically Continues to Evolve into a Powerful Foe

Created by: Frank Robbins, Neal Adams, and Julius Schwartz

Man-Bat stands on the Bat Signal in a DC Comic

Most of Batman’s villains might have turned to crime for the money or infamy, but Man-Bat is the result a good deed not going unpunished. Dr. Kirk Langstrom was one of the foremost scientists attempting to cure blindness by using the DNA of bats. However, Langstrom used himself as a guinea pig for his experiment, unlocking his monstrous and powerful alter-ego, Man-Bat. For years, Langstrom has been fighting a losing war against his feral half, who continues to plague Batman and Gotham.

When Man-Bat is in control, Langstrom is faster, stronger, and more resilient than any human alive, not to mention he can fly thanks to the large wings he grows in his beastly form. Though Man-Bat doesn’t have the intelligence of Langstrom, the scientist has recently developed a new persona known as the Bat, who is as smart as Langstrom, with all of Man-Bat’s physical prowess.

6 Bane is the Brawn and Brains that Truly Rivals Batman

Created by: Chuck Dixon and Graham Nolan

Bane preparing to fight

Bane isn’t originally from Gotham, but that hasn’t stopped him from becoming one of the biggest threats the city has ever seen. Bane is a cold, calculating individual, who’s tactical mind rivals that of Batman’s. The first time he came to the Caped Crusader’s city, Bane orchestrated one of the greatest attacks on Batman that left the hero literally broken. The only thing that exceeds Bane’s incredible intelligence is his unbelievable strength.

Granted, the overwhelming muscles that Bane has are augmented thanks to his use of the dangerous drug Venom. When he’s got the drug running through his system, Bane can literally lift several thousand pounds. Bane has periodically quit Venom, and even without it, he’s still remarkably stronger than the average Batman foe. But when Bane’s got his little helper, he’s a true danger to the Dark Knight.

5 Death Can Never Claim Solomon Grundy

Created by: Alfred Bester and Paul Reinman

Solomon Grundy from DC Comics

Batman’s city is full of terrifying threats, but few are as frightening as the monster that comes crawling out of a nearby swamp every once in a while. The legend of Solomon Grundy dates back to 19th century Gotham when a man named Cyrus Gold died and his body was left in Slaughter Swamp. The origins are murky, but what’s important is that years after Gold’s death, he was revived as Solomon Grundy, an undead monster of superhuman size and strength.

Grundy is essentially a zombie and, thus, cannot die, no matter what punishment he’s put through. He’s incredibly durable and, even when damaged, he’s able to reconstitute his body to its original (albeit undead) form. Grundy is also outrageously strong and has even gone toe-to-toe with Superman, more than making the living dead one of the most powerful, and disturbing, foes in Batman’s collection of villains.

4 Clayface's Shape-Shifting Powers Makes Him a True Threat

Created by: Bill Finger and Bob Kane

Clayface in DC Comics

Possibly the most well-known and versatile metahuman in Batman’s rogues’ gallery, Clayface is one of the Dark Knight’s most insidious bad guys. Once a struggling actor, Basil Karlo’s life was changed thanks to a miracle product known as Renu. However, an accident doused Karlo’s entire body with Renu, changing the chemical composition of his body to resemble a giant monster made of malleable clay.

As his name implies, Clayface can shape-shift his body into anything he desires. He can shape-shift into other people and, using his talents as an actor, steal people’s identities effortlessly. Clayface also has control over the density of his body, and can fashion parts of himself into weapons such as blades or maces, making Clayface an unpredictable threat. In rare circumstances, Clayface can even copy someone down to their DNA and replicate their powers.

3 Gotham Was an Evil Superman on Batman's Home Turf

Created by: Tom King and David Finch

Gotham-after-defeating-the-Justice-League-in-DC-Comics

Batman has inspired dozens of heroes over the years, including a young man named Henry Clover, Jr. After being saved by the Caped Crusader as a child, Henry and his sister arranged to give themselves metahuman powers that resembled those of a Kryptonian. Unfortunately, the powers came at a grave cost. Henry (now calling himself Gotham) could become incredibly powerful, but only at the cost of his lifespan. The more power he used, the quicker he ushered in his own death.

While Gotham possessed powers like flight, heat vision, and super strength, he was not as heroic as Superman, and found himself manipulated by Psycho-Pirate, who used his mask to drive Gotham insane. Batman was out of his depth as Gotham began to lose his mind, but thankfully (and tragically), Henry was eventually taken down by his sister, Gotham Girl.

2 Ra’s al Ghul's Mysticism Keeps Him in the Dark Knight's Life Forever

Created by: Dennis O'Neil, Neal Adams, and Julius Schwartz

Ra's al Ghul is Back DC

Ra’s al Ghul has been alive longer than most of Batman’s villains, and his use of the Lazarus Pits played no small part in that. Thanks to the mystical waters he’s bathed in for centuries, al Ghul’s body has changed considerably. Not only does he age slower than a normal human, but his senses and physical prowess are all enhanced, making him more than an equal to Batman in a fight. A future presented in The Legion portrayed al Ghul as having evolved beyond needing the Pits and becoming an immortal metahuman.

Beyond how his body has changed with the Lazarus Pits, Ra’s al Ghul is also well versed in the arcane arts, able to perform limited magic rituals, such as soul transfers. His physical body was destroyed during the “Shadow War” crossover, but al Ghul has transcended the mortal plane and currently exists in an intangible ghost form.

Created by: Robert Kanigher and Sheldon Moldoff

Poison Ivy #27 cover art feature

The eco-warrior Poison Ivy had the most powerful glow-up of anyone in Batman’s coterie of supervillains. As such, Poison Ivy is deeply connected to the Earth’s flora and has become more plant than person.
