Warning! Spoilers ahead for Green Arrow #12!One member of the Green Arrow family has a new costume that doubles as the perfect tribute to a certain DC hero. After months apart, Oliver Queen and his family are finally coming together and amid the excitement, Lian Harper debuts her awesome new outfit that honors a figure close to her heart.
In Green Arrow #12 by Joshua Williamson, Sean Izaakse, Phil Hester, and Eric Gapstur, Oliver is swarmed by hard light constructs modeled after his friends and loved ones. However, Green Arrow evens the odds by calling on the entirety of Team Arrow to help him take down the constructs and Merlyn.
After the fight, Oliver takes his family to the island he was once shipwrecked on. Arsenal is discovered by his daughter Lian Harper, now wearing a red and yellow costume similar to Roy's old Speedy outfit, who jumps into his arms to give her father a hug.
Arsenal's Daughter Honors Him with Her New Speedy-Inspired Costume
Lian Harper was Roy's pride and joy. But tragedy befell Arsenal when Lian was seemingly killed by the Electrocutioner. However, she was still alive and wound up in Amanda Waller's clutches, who placed an implant in her mind that would keep her far away from Green Arrow's family. Lian survived on Gotham's streets for years by herself and it wasn't until just recently that she finally reunited with her father. Unfortunately, the implant in her brain took her away from Roy once more, enraging Arsenal and sending him on a warpath to find Waller.
While on her own, Lian took up the mantle of Cheshire Cat after her mother's secret identity, Cheshire. While she still honors Cheshire by wearing a cat-like mask, her new costume is a brilliant way of paying tribute to her father. Back when he was Speedy, Roy wore a largely red outfit with yellow gloves and boots. While it's not an exact replica of what her dad wore, Lian's new costume looks like a sleek, modernized version of the original Speedy outfit. Not only is it a good look for Lian, but it's also a heartwarming affirmation of her and Arsenal's bond.
Lian Harper's Costume Brings Speedy's Costume Full Circle
When Roy wore the Speedy costume years ago, it wasn't much more than just a childish version of his mentor's costume. But now that Lian has adopted the Speedy imagery into her costume, it's taken on a new meaning. Now Cheshire Cat's red and yellow colors serve as a way of honoring her father, the man she spent years away from and who is finally back in her life. Judging by the look on Arsenal's face, he's more than happy for her to wear the same colors he wore back when he was Green Arrow's sidekick.
Green Arrow #12 is available now from DC Comics.
