As Green Lantern enters the Nightmare Realm, Hal Jordan will confront his nemesis - the cosmic parasite Parallax - in a wildly powerful new form that goes beyond all previous limits. The living embodiment of fear, Parallax once turned Hal Jordan into a lethal villain and the Justice League's most hated pariah. Now, it's back on a shocking new level.
In a preview of Knight Terrors: Green Lantern #1 - from Jeremy Adams, Eduardo Pansica, and Dave Sharpe - pilot and superhero Hal Jordan awakes on a crashing jet, only to step through a door into the funeral of his father, who himself died in a plane crash. However, the summary for the issue makes it clear that this is just the warm-up for the return of Parallax - the Fear Entity which possessed Hal at his lowest moment and pushed him to murder his allies in the Green Lantern Corps. Except this time, Parallax doesn't just want to possess Green Lantern - it has seized control of an entire planet. Enjoy a preview, a selection of variant covers, and the issue's synopsis, below:
Green Lantern's Nemesis Just Became a Planet
Back in space to face his greatest fear! Something is wrong in Sector 2814, and Hal Jordan, Kilowog, and a few other Lanterns must find the mysterious disturbance, despite a ban on any of Earth’s Green Lanterns leaving their world. What they discover is a planet controlled by a familiar face—the face of Hal’s greatest fear! And in a backup story, Sinestro finds himself thrust into a new reality that drags him into the darkest corners of his past…and perhaps his future.
Parallax Is Back - But How Does Knight Terrors Connect?
The Parallax-possessed Hal over in Green Arrow - a shock twist that has yet to be explained.
Green Lantern's Greatest Fear Is Back
Whether real or a nightmare, the version of Parallax that Hal will encounter is like nothing he's seen before - a version of the Fear Entity which has consumed an entire world. While Darkseid is often held up as DC's supreme villain, even the New God of Evil only commands Apokolips - it's not his physical self. However, since Parallax prefers to work through hosts, it makes sense that bolstered by Hal Jordan's fears, it would be capable of possessing an entire world. It's interesting to note that Hal Jordan has often worked alongside Mogo - a sentient planet that's part of the Green Lantern Corps. Could this be Parallax's new host?
In DC lore, fear is the opposite of will, which makes Hal Jordan - the embodiment of will power - the prize that Parallax craves most. After his experiences in the past, Green Lantern's greatest fear is once again becoming Parallax's avatar - a fear he'll be forced to confront as his nemesis debuts its new, ultimate form.
Knight Terrors: Green Lantern #1 is coming from DC Comics, July 11.
