Warning: Spoilers for Green Lantern: Dark #1In the DC Universe, there's a variety of Green Lanterns scattered across the cosmos, all of whom use their powers in their own innovative ways. A new Green Lantern has just made her official debut in an Elseworlds story, and her powers might be the most unique of any Lantern. Moreover, this Green Lantern isn't merely one of many in her world. She's the last of the Green Lanterns, and the last surviving superhero overall.

The preview for Green Lantern: Dark #1 by Tate Brombal, Werther Dell'Edera, and Giovanna Niro debuts the newest Green Lantern with an eventful introduction. An apocalypse has struck this universe and plunged it into darkness, as Solomon Grundy resurrects corpses as horrifying zombies. The rest of the superheroes fall in their attempts to stop Grundy, letting him carry out his dastardly scheme with no one to stop him. Then, it's revealed that Green Lantern is alive, and she won't go down as easily as her fellow heroes.

This Green Lantern isn't a familiar face, such as John Stewart or Guy Gardner, so this will be the first time readers see her in action. An all-new Green Lantern has harnessed her willpower, and she alone can bring light back to the post-apocalyptic world she hails from.

DC's Newest Green Lantern Makes Her Official Debut in an Elseworld Tale

Meet Rina Mori, the Last Survivor of the Apocalypse

Comic book art: Green Lantern Dark Rina Mori smiles while holding her staff.

The Green Lantern of this dark universe is named Rina Mori. With her bowl cut and edgy piercings, she has a hardened look that suits her apocalyptic setting. Her design is unlike any of the human Green Lanterns in DC's main continuity, trading the usual Green Lantern Corps uniform for an occult cloak. While most Lanterns have a sci-fi aesthetic, Rina Mori leans towards the fantastical with her sorcerer-like appearance. Furthermore, she bears a notable resemblance to the Green Lantern of the Tangent Universe, who wears the same cloak and channels her power through similar means.

Green Lantern gets the most drastic redesign in any continuity, making it the perfect time to explore the wildest forms of the Emerald Knight.

Like the Tangent Universe's mystical Green Lantern, Rina Mori harnesses her abilities in a way that differentiates her from standard DC Lantern mythos. Rather than wearing a Green Lantern power ring, Rina holds a staff with a physical lantern attached to it. Holding this staff could be the equivalent of having her power battery on her person at all times, which means she doesn't run the risk of running out of charge like other Lanterns do. Her empowered lantern opens up new possibilities for what she can accomplish with her willpower, and it allows her to brave the apocalypse as the sole survivor of DC's heroes.

"The Greatest of Them All": Green Lantern Is Her Universe's Most Powerful Hero

Green Lantern Is the Only Hero Remaining in this Dark Universe

Except Green Lantern, every hero in this grim Elseworlds tale has perished against Solomon Grundy's supernatural forces. His zombies have overtaken the world without heroes to oppose them, and only Rina Mori possesses the power to intervene. One hero being the Earth's solitary line of defense in a time like this seems bleak, but the narration of this preview establishes that Green Lantern was the strongest hero even in better days. As such, though Rina Mori may be the last flame of hope, she shines bright enough to pierce the darkness. If anyone can end an apocalypse, it's this magical new Green Lantern.

Green Lantern: Dark #1 is available October 23rd, 2024 from DC Comics.
