HBO Max's Justice League. One of the other confirmed projects is a live-action Green Lantern series.

Announced in late 2019, the Green Lantern series for HBO Max comes from the mind of Greg Berlanti, the prolific producer who helped launch the Arrowverse on The CW. Geoff Johns was linked to the series in some fashion, but it has now been announced that Seth Grahame-Smith and Arrow co-creator Marc Guggenheim are writing the series. This news on Green Lantern comes with a series order for 10 episodes of the galactic adventure. DC fans have long wondered which Green Lanterns will appear in the show, though, and we now have an answer.

As reported by Deadline, the HBO Max Green Lantern series will star multiple characters who all have access to the Power Rings. It has now been confirmed that Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, Alan Scott, Sinestro, Kilowog, and new Green Lanterns created for the show will appear in some fashion.

Guy Gardner as a Green Lantern in DC Comics

For non-comic readers, most of the Green Lantern stars will be new characters. Alan Scott is the original Green Lantern of Earth in the comics and a gay man. This will be his third live-action appearance after Doug Pinton played him in an episode of Smallville and a brief appearance in season 1 of Stargirl. Guy Gardner was the second choice to Hal Jordan to become Green Lantern in the comics and became his backup before becoming his own hero. Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz are two of the more recent humans to become Earth's protectors in the comics, as they are paired together to become the first woman and first Lebanese Muslim Green Lanterns of Earth. Neither of them has appeared in a live-action project yet. Meanwhile, Sinestro and Kilowog were both last featured in the 2011 Green Lantern movie and are Green Lanterns who protect other parts of the galaxy.

Even though the HBO Max series won't include Hal Jordan or John Stewart, the lineup of Green Lanterns that has been assembled is exciting. Not only does it give Green Lantern a diverse lineup of characters to explore, but they are each excellent characters with unique stories to tell. There might not be any casting news to let fans know who will play each of them, but hopefully it won't be long before more Green Lantern news arrives.
