Star Sapphire is finally ready to take the next step as a hero after learning what it takes to be one, completing her evolution from Green Lantern villain to one of his most reliable allies, and she'll soon make DC history by ing the Justice League's biggest roster yet.

In Green Lantern Civil Corps Special #1 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Jeremy Adams, Salvador Larroca, Luis Guerrero, and Dave Sharpe, the Green Lanterns of Sector 2814 gather to formulate a plan and put an end to Carol Ferris, his on-and-off love interest. Carol then transforms into Star Sapphire and declares, "I guess I'm a superhero now."

Star Sapphire has come a long way over the years, from trying to kill Green Lantern to fighting by his side on the universe's behalf. She's officially been recognized as a superhero here, and it won't be long before this former supervillain stands with the Justice League.

Carol Ferris' relationship with her Star Sapphire persona is about as unstable as her fickle love affair with Hal Jordan. As recently as Green Lantern #1 by Jeremy Adams and Xermánico, Carol had sworn off using her Star Sapphire powers and resigned herself to an ordinary life as the owner of Ferris Aircraft. Then, everything changes when unknowingly turning him into a "Sorrow Lantern" - and equips her Star Sapphire ring, flying to Green Lantern's rescue in his time of need.

Carol Ferris became Star Sapphire again in Green Lantern #12 by Jeremy Adams and Xermánico, available now from DC Comics.

Of course, Carol becoming Star Sapphire again isn't enough for her to fully commit to the path of a hero. She expresses doubts, until the events of the Absolute Power crossover event separate her from Green Lantern and lead her to the Justice Society of America. Watching the JSA lay their lives on the line and combat Amanda Waller's forces, despite being powerless, inspires Star Sapphire to follow in their brave footsteps. Carol tells Hal as much after their heartfelt reunion in Green Lantern #15, and now she's working with the Green Lanterns to take down Thaaros and save the world.

With time, Carol learned to control her Star Sapphire form so she could have agency while using its might. This control also led to her role becoming less overtly villainous. She overcame her obsession with Hal and became an official member of the Star Sapphire Corps, one of many Blackest Night by Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis. Still, Star Sapphire never considered herself a hero before, and she's certainly never been recognized by the Justice League as one.

It's surprising to see one of Green Lantern's classic enemies on a team that's reserved only for the greatest heroes of the DC Universe, and it shows just how far Carol has come since her days as a destructive force of evil.
