Chapter 1, "Gods and Monsters" movies in the works, there are also several TV shows being developed under DC Studios for the new DC Universe. One of them is the Lanterns TV show, which will finally bring the Green Lantern Corps back to screens.

After its initial announcement January 2023, Lanterns has finally been picked up to series, but with a big twist. Instead of airing on Max, Lanterns will now be moving to HBO, with Chris Mundy attached as showrunner while Tom King and Damon Lindelof will be writing and executive producing. Lanterns season 1 will officially consist of eight episodes, while HBO describes the show as follows:

The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.

Lanterns's Detective Show Confirms An Older Hal Jordan

Over the last few months, there have been numerous Lanterns casting rumors, particularly about the age difference between Hal and John. Since this will be the first time that Hal and John are featured together at the same time in live-action, there was bound to be some age gap between the respective Emerald Knights. With HBO now confirming that Hal is a "Lantern legend," this iteration of the DC icon will clearly have been part of the Green Lantern Corps for quite some time.

As the Lanterns TV show is now properly moving forward, HBO and DC Studios have tapped a solid creative team for the series. Given how Lanterns is being heavily influenced by HBO's True Detective, Mundy's involvement makes perfect sense, as he will already have that tone part of his writing. With Lindelof's successful run with the Watchmen TV show on HBO and King's acclaimed work within the world of DC Comics, this is a strong combination of creators coming together.

Assuming that Lanterns will start filming later this year or in 2025, the next big move for them to focus on is casting, as they have yet to tap actors for Hal and John. Whoever they cast as the respective Lanterns leads, it is exciting to know that DC Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery are putting more commitment into the series by moving it from Max to HBO. With Lanterns being officially picked up to series, time will tell what the show has in store for the DC Universe audience.
