InCristina. In the aftermath of Burke jilting her at the altar, Cristina found another twisted sister in Callie when the pair laughed at their failed relationships. It wasn't long before the pair became roommates and good friends.
Or that's what the writers led us to believe. If fans take another look at the two characters, you will see they had nothing in common apart from their professions. In fact, if they weren't living together for some time, they wouldn't have even talked to one another.
Cristina Was Going To Refuse Being Godmother
Although Cristina did end up accepting the position, it was a little offensive that she was going to refuse to be Sofia's godmother because of Meredith. In "Golden Hour," Cristina and Meredith ended getting into a mini tiff when the cardiothoracic surgeon revealed Callie had asked her to be a godparent.
Instead of being pleased, Meredith tells her that she hoped Cristina refused. When Cristina asks why Meredith its its because she wants Cristina to be godmother to her child. If she accepted the position, then it felt like Cristina was saying Meredith will never have a kid of her own. Because of this, Cristina says she won't accept - which showed that she valued Mer's friendship more.
Cristina Was Only Nice To Callie For Her Flashcards
In the early stages of the show, Cristina wasn't nice to Callie. She spent half of the time trying to pretend like she didn't exist. Yet, when Callie had something she wanted, Cristina was more than happy to play the best friend. For instance, in the season 3 episode "Desire," Cristina tries to sweet-talk Callie into giving up her 'legendary' flashcards so she can study for the intern exam.
She even tried to bribe Callie by inviting her to a cake testing. However, Callie doesn't fall for it, knowing fully well that she had agenda. The fact that Cristina used Callie and the orthopedic surgeon refused proved they weren't close. Friends never resort to tricks and would do anything to help each other out.
Callie Laughed At The Idea Of Them Being Friends
Another reason why Callie and Cristina weren't good friends is because they outright said so. The first time it was mentioned was in "Great Expectations," when Callie confided in Cristina about George and the cardiothoracic surgeon shot her down. In response, Callie itted she was right because she didn't like her.
Callie was also seen to return the sentiment in "The Other Side of this Life," laughing when Preston's mother asked if the two were friends. Typically, these are not the reactions you expect from that question. Just goes to show they didn't care about each other's feelings.
Cristina Didn't Have Faith In Callie And George
The revelation of Callie and George's wedding in Vegas proved which people were their true friends ("Wishin and Hopin"). Addison and Meredith proved themselves worthy of the title when they expressed their happiness for the couple. Even Bailey was the first to on her congratulations.
Where did Cristina fall? In the group of people who believed it was a terrible mistake. So much so, she believes it was a whimsical decision. Cristina also proved to be a terrible friend when Izzie made stupid jokes at Callie's expense and didn't say anything. You may not like your friend's decisions but you are meant to them if it made them happy.
Cristina Threatened To Kick Her Out
While season 4 saw Callie and Cristina become official roommates, it didn't exactly start as an equal partnership. When Callie first moved in, Cristina treated their friendship like it was a business arrangement. For instance, when Cristina found out Callie was Hahn's best friend, she threatened to kick her out unless she got her on one of Hahn's surgeries.
When Callie protests, Cristina says "desperate measures." It's quite manipulative, especially since Cristina knew that Callie had nowhere else to go. A real friend would never treat you this way.
Cristina Was Unaware Of Callie's Relationship With Hahn
Another moment that proved Cristina and Callie weren't true friends was the fact that Cristina was unaware of Callie's romance with Hahn. Considering that the two had been living together for some time, you would have thought Cristina would have picked up on a few signals. Especially when the two women were seen kissing in the apartment several times.
It was only until Hahn left did Cristina realize the two were an item. On the other hand, Callie mustn't have felt like they were close enough to share something so personal. Friendship won't work if there is no trust.
The Bad Haircut Incident
It may have been one of the funniest moments in the entire series but, in reality, you would be furious if a friend did this to you. In "Something's Got To Give," Cristina ends up cutting a chunk of Callie's off after the orthopedic surgeon considers whether to get a haircut or not.
In good faith, Callie allows Cristina to trim her hair. However, she soon realizes what a terrible mistake she made when she sees the damage Cristina has done. When Callie asks if she had cut hair before, Cristina says no. Instead of making her look like an idiot, Cristina should have just agreed to go to the salon in the first place.
Cristina Compared Her Baby To A Chicken
Although Cristina is Sofia's godmother, she didn't exactly adapt to the role when she told Callie her child looked like a "chicken." In the aftermath of the car crash, Callie had to undergo a lot of intense therapy, meaning that she had yet to see Sofia.
She could only rely on the words of the other surgeons and the pictures from Mark. So when she asked Cristina for an update, she didn't expect the cardiothoracic surgeon to say she looked like "a featherless, beakless chicken." A little insensitive, especially when Sofia was fighting for her life.
Callie Tried To Kick Cristina Out While She Had PTSD
While Cristina is often known to be cold and selfish, no one ever thought Callie would be as heartless as she was in season 7. In the first few episodes, it was clear to all that Cristina had PTSD as a result of the hospital shooting. Did Callie seem concerned with this? Not so much...
Instead of trying to find ways to help her recover, Callie was too focused on rebuilding her relationship with Arizona. Since she asked the pediatric surgeon to move in with her, she then tried to kick Cristina and Owen out of the apartment. Cristina needed the of her loved ones and yet, Callie was trying to make her homeless. It's not exactly what a friend would try to do.
Not Invested In Each Other's Lives.
One of the main reasons why Callie and Cristina aren't real friends is because they aren't invested in each other's lives. The main reason why Callie and Cristina's arrangement work was because they never bothered each other with their emotional problems.
when they were both sobbing into their cereal and complaining about the other's crying? ("Sanctuary") Not once did they try to comfort the other. It's just not what they did. If Callie had a problem, she went to Mark or Arizona. If Cristina had a problem, Meredith and Derek tended to help her out. They were bound to drift apart once they weren't living together.
