Showrunner Meg Marinis teases what to expect from Nico and Levi's reunion in Grey's Anatomy season 20.
Speaking with TVLine before the Grey's Anatomy premiere, Marinis talked about what's in store for Levi and Nico as they see each other again. Check out her full comment below:
A fair assumption is that Levi and Nico will interact. You’ll have to see how that interaction goes. Levi has grown quite a bit since we last saw them together. He’s co-chief resident, and he’s had a lot more doctoring under his belt since he’s seen Nico. So their interactions will look different, given how much he’s matured. [Nico's] done some growing since last they were together. He seems like he’s the same, but he’s not. He’s clearly had two years of things happening in his life.
Will Nico & Levi Get Back Together?
Marinis stops short of saying Nico and Levi will get back together – understandable as she likely wants to preserve the surprise for viewers. While a romantic reunion is possible considering their history and the growth that Marinis references, it's worth keeping in mind that Landi is, so far, only confirmed as a guest star. It would be hard for Grey's Anatomy to give a full-blown relationship the attention it deserves in that limited amount of screen time.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 20’s New Doctor Teases A Hot New Romance
The Grey’s Anatomy season 20 trailer was full of exciting reveals, including a new doctor who already has romantic chemistry with another character.
Landi's status could change, with the actor appearing in more episodes than expected, but Grey's is working with more limits this year than in past seasons. Due to the 2023 strikes, season 20 will only have ten episodes, making it the show's shortest run since season 1, which had nine. Grey's has a larger cast than many other shows, and serving all the characters is a challenge even in a standard season of 20+ episodes.
With those considerations in mind, it seems more likely that Nico will come back for a one-off appearance to provide Levi with some closure. This could set Levi up well for another relationship or more personal growth. Hopefully, Nico's Grey's Anatomy return will satisfy viewers who liked his relationship with Levi as well as those who had some issues with it.
Grey's Anatomy season 20 premieres Thursday, March 14 at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
