The hit medical drama the brilliant surgeon Meredith Grey and follows her evolution as a person, along with that of her friends and colleagues.
Meredith is practically the sole lead protagonist of the series making almost everybody else a secondary character. Most of these characters are fan favorites and each of them is beloved to various degrees, especially in of how likable they are (or aren't).
Owen Hunt
Dr. Owen Hunt is one of the oldest characters on the show, having been around from the 5th season onwards. Hunt was the dashing trauma surgeon who was introduced as Cristina Yang's love interest but stayed on after actor Sandra Oh, who played Yang, left the show.
Owen was likable enough when he first ed the ABC drama but has over the years become worn out from the messed up circumstances of his love life and the trauma of having served as an army doctor. It's not entirely his fault that his personal demons began to affect how he got along with his colleagues, but he's still the least likable of the secondary characters, his choice or not.
Teddy Altman
Yin is to yang as Teddy is to Owen. Teddy Altman ed the show in the 6th season to bring up the third angle in the love triangle involving Owen, Cristina, and Teddy herself. Teddy is an accomplished cardiothoracic surgeon and was even Cristina's mentor at one time.
Teddy is intelligent and sensitive but perhaps not the first name that would come to mind when ranking characters according to their likability. Despite taking the hint and leaving Owen and Cristina to themselves at first, Teddy returned in season 14, this time pregnant with Owen's kid— and also quite uncharacteristically started an affair with the neurosurgeon Tom Koracic. Teddy might have a kind heart but she does get rather muddled at times.
Andrew DeLuca
Andrew DeLuca ed Grey's around the same time that Derek ed away, and before long became involved with Meredith— although their relationship hit the rocks soon enough when DeLuca started showing signs of mental exhaustion and fragility.
In general, DeLuca is a nice, kind young man who falls in and out of love quickly. However, DeLuca has been shown to be a bit of brat at times, especially when he made unwanted advances at Jo while under stress. For this reason alone, he would probably not rank very high in of likability.
Maggie Pierce
Richard and Ellis' daughter— and Meredith's half sister— Maggie is sweet and charming, although she can be a tad bit irritating when she goes off into one of her rants, oblivious to anything anybody else says or does.
Maggie is adorable in her own way, always looking out for Meredith and her kids and willing to do anything for Amelia, too, whom she considers a sister by way of being Meredith's sister.
Jo Wilson
Jo Wilson started out as an intern at Grey Sloan Memorial and soon went on to be a part of Meredith's outer circle, becoming romantically involved with Alex Karev.
Jo was initially something of a whiner, but over time she has evolved into a responsible woman. Jo had a difficult life, having been abandoned as a baby and living off the streets but retained her charming innocence. Jo is definitely a likable young doctor and one wonders what her arc would be now that actor Justin Chambers who played her husband Karev has exited the show.
Richard Webber
The father figure for Meredith Grey and almost all others who through Grey Sloan on their way to becoming medical practitioners, Richard Webber is old school perhaps but he is still fun and is most definitely a fan favorite.
Richard has slowly but surely made his way into the audience's hearts over the years. He is no doubt a flawed man, for he cheated on his wife Adele with Ellis, and then again with Katherine Avery. But he is adored by fans who would be devastated if anything were to happen to him.
Amelia Shepherd
Amelia is the baby sister of the handsome neurosurgeon Derek Shepherd, who was one of the lead protagonists on the show until his character's tragic death in season 11.
Amelia is a self-proclaimed scatterbrain, although a lot of her erratic behavior was caused due to the large brain tumor that went undiagnosed for a long time. She is now relatively more stable and relatable as a character, not to mention adorable.
Miranda Bailey
Bailey started out as the short-sized terror to every intern, resident, and sometimes even attendings at Grey Sloan, then known as Seattle Grace.
But over time she has evolved into one of the kindest, wisest, and most reliable people on the show. She is a feisty little woman and has made her way to the top through sheer grit and hard work. This might have forced her to be sharp at times but underneath the tough veneer, Miranda Bailey is a wonderful person.
Cormac Hayes
Cormac Hayes is the newest addition to the Grey's brood of doctors. A cute Irish fella, Cormac is a widower whose wife died an untimely death leaving him alone with two young sons. Hayes had a fun entrance as Cristina's gift to Meredith, although he was supremely unaware of any such design that Cristina might have had for him.
Hayes is one of the most likable characters on the series at the moment, and the writers are setting him up as Meredith's prospective partner in a big way.
Jackson Avery
Possibly one of the most rational and adorable secondary characters on Grey's Anatomy is Jackson Avery, the gorgeous plastic surgeon.
Jackson was something of a peripheral character when he first ed Grey's as an intern from Mercy West Hospital, but at present he is one of the few from that particular bunch of characters who have gone on to have a significant arc. As far as likability goes, Jackson undoubtedly tops the list.
