In survival games like Grounded, base building is by far one of the most important things a player can do to make sure they have a place to replenish their resources and protect themselves from attacks. Often, players will choose to make a main base and several smaller sub-bases so they are never caught too far from a spot where they can go to find sanctuary and regroup before the next story mission. A player's first base is likely to be located where they begin the game in the backyard, and as players unlock more resources and explore more locations, they are likely to improve upon this first spot.
The best base locations in Grounded are often ones close to valuable build bases and sub-bases for maximum protection from threats in Grounded.
Best Base Locations in Grounded for Maximum Protection
While the developers have teased the introduction of flying insects like Ants and spiders do not climb, so they cannot attack bases that are built on walls or rocks.
Most of the enemies in the game are concentrated in areas with plenty of useful resources, like the Oak Tree and the Hedges. Of course, players wanting to build a useful base will also want to be in such an area for easy access to these resources, so building an elevated base will give the player better flexibility to place their structures near the best resources in the game.
Players can also use the ability to build floors and scaffolding to place their base on or near any of the lakes. At this point in the game, there are no water-based enemies, and insects and spiders cannot enter the water, making it an ideal base location. In future updates, which are likely to include creatures that call the lake home, players may need to reconsider these locations, but for now, they are among the safest in the game.
Here are some of the best places to build a base in Grounded early access to be protected from enemies:
- On top of the baseball: On the western side of the map, players can use scaffolding to build a base on top of the Baseball landmark.
- In the northern lake: In the northwestern part of the map, players can build their base floating on the lake using scaffolding and floors to be near resources like flowers and water and away from enemies.
- On the stone base of the Birdbath: In the southeastern part of the map, berry chunks, berry leather, and water.
- Under the patio next to the mushrooms: In the middle of the southern part of the map by the house, players can build a fortress in a small alcove made by the s for the patio. This location provides walled protection on three sides, meaning enemies can only ever attack from one direction, and gives players access to a Field Station, plenty of food, and resources.
- On any large, flat rock: Players can build their base on a rock near whatever resource they want to prioritize.
- On top of the log fence: Near the Oak Tree, players can find fences made of logs. The tops of these logs make an excellent location for a base, and players can access acorns, sap, and the BURG.L Lab.
Players building a base will always want to do their best to incorporate fencing as an extra layer of protection to make it more difficult for enemies to attack. They will also want to choose base locations near the resources they want to prioritize, like clean drinking water, berries, or dry grass. As the game continues to evolve, some players may find it necessary to relocate their base to be better protected.
Grounded is in early access and is available for PC and Xbox One. The full version of the game is set to launch in 2021.
