According to an alleged Rockstar Games insider, another viewer numbers higher than the population of the entire US. Fans are combing through every frame of the new trailer for any information they can piece together about the highly anticipated game, but now, it looks like a different GTA game might be released before GTA 6.

According to GTA community member Tez2 on GTAForums, a remaster of Grand Theft Auto 4 may be on the way soon (via RockstarINTEL). While this information should be taken with a grain of salt until there is confirmation of the purported GTA 4 remaster, Tez2 has released correct information about Rockstar titles in the past. The was asked if they had heard anything about a GTA 4 remaster or port, and they responded with: "Someone at Rockstar hinted at the IV port, and by now it should've gone up a year in development. We may end up seeing it drop later this year."

Evidence Points To A GTA 4 Remaster

Mod Takedowns And A Continued Plan From The COVID-19 Pandemic Era

There is a surprising amount of evidence pointing towards a GTA 4 remaster. Rockstar Games and parent company Take-Two Interactive have been working to take down mods of GTA 4 since 2021. Earlier this year, the popular Liberty City Preservation Project was taken down, which was essentially an unofficial fan remaster of GTA 4, leading to speculation that an official remaster of GTA 4 could be on the way. Tez2 commented on the unannounced remaster, saying: "And it's one more reason... the LP mod was taken down."

One of The Ballad of Gay Tony's NPCs that Luis works for would have been a much better choice for Niko to meet in Grand Theft Auto 4's story proper.

Back in 2022, Tez2 reported that both GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption were on the table to be remastered. Allegedly, the remasters were canceled after the GTA: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition. It appears the remaster of GTA 4 might be possible again, and there have allegedly been plans to remaster GTA 4 and the Max Payne games for years, with Taz2 saying: "If they still follow their plan laid out from the pandemic days, they'll do an MP3 port after [GTA] IV."

Will This Hold Over Fans Until GTA 6?

It'll Certainly Give Fans Some New GTA Content

GTA 4's Niko with Liberty City behind him.

With being delayed until May 2026, a remaster of GTA 4 might be the thing fans want to see while Rockstar continues work on the next entry. GTA 5 has been re-released several times already and is readily available on just about every modern console and PC, but GTA 4 hasn't had near the same amount of attention. Now that updated versions exist of virtually every 3D GTA game, except for GTA 4, 2025 might be the perfect time to bring GTA 4 back to the limelight.

The Elder Scrolls series recently got a well-received remaster of 2006's Oblivion, as fans continue the wait for The Elder Scrolls 6. While that game is much further away than GTA 6, it has still been 12 years since GTA 5, so anything newish for Grand Theft Auto will probably be warmly welcomed by fans. The remaster is unconfirmed as of right now, but if it is real, hopefully it will release in a much better state than the GTA: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition and fans will get their Grand Theft Auto fix until GTA 6 releases next year.
