While 2006 Scarface video game could once again make Tony Montana Miami's premier fictional crime.

Leaks indicate that GTA 6 will follow in the footsteps of 2002's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City by taking players to the Miami-inspired Vice City. Set in the 1980s, Vice City saw protagonist Tommy Vercetti rise from a lowly gangster seeking revenge to become the head of a massive crime organization. While it built upon the foundations led by prior Grand Theft Auto games, Vice City also took heavy inspiration from the 1983 crime drama Scarface. Starring Al Pacino as protagonist Tony Montana and directed by Brian De Palma, the film tells the story of a Cuba refugee's transformation into a power-hungry drug lord. The film infamously ends in Montana's bloody death, but a 2006 Scarface sequel game titled The World Is Yours actually continued the notorious gangster's story.

Developed by Radical Entertainment, Scarface: The World Is Yours rewrites film history in order to explore the later years of Tony Montana's life. Rather than being killed by assassins sent by former partner Alejandro Sosa, the game sees Montana escape with his life and vow revenge while rebuilding his drug empire on the streets of Miami. While changing the film's iconic ending may sound bizarre, Scarface: The World is Yours was actually highly praised for its ability to translate the film's tone and Montana's personality into an open-world shooter experience.

A Scarface Game Sequel Would Be A Perfect Open-World Miami Crime Adventure

While Grand Theft Auto 6 will take players back to Vice City, and presumably take cues from Scarface while doing so, a Scarface game sequel could bring the original Miami drug lord back for another open-world adventure. The ending of The World Is Yours is fairly open-ended, with Tony Montana earning a happy ending after shooting his way through Alejandro Sosa's men and finally taking revenge by killing his traitorous partner. A sequel to The World Is Yours, titled Scarface: Empire, was even in development back in the 2000s before being canceled. This game would have seen Montana move his criminal activities to Las Vegas following a crackdown on drugs in Miami, continuing the epic saga of Al Pacino's greatest film character.

Recent leaks suggest that the GTA franchise is returning to Vice City, so it seems like a perfect time for a new Scarface game to deliver its own modern recreation of Miami. The World Is Yours managed to successfully capture the feeling of the iconic crime film while continuing Tony Montana's epic quest to rule the criminal underworld, and a sequel could follow suit. A third game could recreate the franchise's 1980s Miami vibes, making it a major competitor to Grand Theft Auto 6, while possibly bringing an end to the Scarface saga and Tony Montana's story.
