The Cayo Perico Heist in Grand Theft Auto Online offered players something for the first time: a chance to undertake the new Heist completely solo. It makes a pretty important change in the way Rockstar Games handles Heists in GTA Online, and the success of Cayo Perico proves that fans want more single-player DLC.
The Cayo Perico Heist has players breaching a luxurious private island, home to a notorious drug dealer named El Rubio. The Heist was a big new location, and it could be undertaken alone or with other players. It seems that many people were enticed by single-player content, since Rockstar reported that over half of players did the Cayo Perico Heist solo instead of with a squad.
The reasoning for this could be that many players just didn't want to wait to find a group of players to undertake the Heist with - or perhaps players didn't want to rely on others for the Heist's success. Whatever the reason, Rockstar's numbers show that the demand for single-player DLC in GTA Online is definitely there. GTA Online set a record number of new players in 2020, which could also speak to the success of the Cayo Perico Heist and the possibility of single-player options.
Will GTA Online Get More Single-Player DLC?
The success of GTA Online's Cayo Perico Heist, as well as the fact that the majority of players did the Heist alone, proves fans wanted single-player DLC all along. The biggest question now is whether or not Rockstar Games will introduce more single-player Heists and content in the future. Based on the numbers Rockstar shared, it makes sense from a business standpoint to give players what they want - which appears to be more single-player content.
With the addition of new radio stations in GTA Online, new vehicles, and a new island to explore, the Cayo Perico Heist appears to have been a rousing success for Rockstar. Allowing players to perform the Heist solo also seems to have paid off. To build upon that success, it makes sense for Rockstar to introduce more single-player DLC in the future. Now that the path has been paved for single-player Heists in GTA Online, it seems unlikely Rockstar will take away the option for any future Heists that come to the game.
While some fans were disappointed about the island's seemingly empty environment and free-roam limitations, Cayo Perico has mostly been well-received by players. The new Heist in GTA Online definitely proves one thing: more single-player DLC is both wanted and needed. And, hopefully, Rockstar can deliver more of it.
