Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s Will Poulter reacts to rumors that his character Adam Warlock will be romantically involved with Zoe Saldana’s Gamora in the Guardians sequel. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is directed by James Gunn (who directed both Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) and will mark the end of the main arc for the Star-Lord’s team. Poulter will be one of several new actors introduced to the Guardians universe, ing Nico Santos, Chukwudi Iwuji, and Maria Bakalova.

Adam Warlock, a favorite character from the comics, is a long-anticipated addition to the MCU. It has also been long rumored that Adam may be in a relationship with Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In past Guardians films, Gamora’s love interest has been Star-Lord himself, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt). However, given the events of the split timelines in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, the Gamora that Peter was in love with has died, and they are now on the search for the alternate Gamora. So, it is conceivable for fans to imagine that Gamora may not still be in love with Peter but could in fact be interested in Adam. A relationship between Gamora and Adam Warlock would not be out of line with the source material either, for Adam and Gamora were romantically involved in some of the original Marvel comics in which Adam Warlock featured (including his solo comic in the 1970s).

Now, Poulter himself addresses the rumors about Adam’s involvement with Gamora. In an interview with Poulter was asked to respond to an Adam Warlock theory with the sound that best expresses how he feels about it. The theory in question was that Adam Warlock was in a relationship with Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Poulter gave a decidedly confused sound as his response, and went on to say that he did not even realize that this was a theory before the interview. Check out the quote from Poulter below:

“I didn’t even know this [theory]. This is breaking news to me. That’s the expectation for volume 3, is it?”

Some may question the truth of Poulter’s response, as MCU actors have been known to vehemently deny fan theories that turn out to be true in the past. Andrew Garfield famously denied rumors that he would reprise his role as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but sure enough, he made an appearance. Poulter, however, seemed pretty sincerely baffled by the theory in the interview, so this denial could be taken more seriously than perhaps past Marvel actors’ responses were.

However, Poulter is of course a seasoned actor—an Emmy nominated one at that—so the actor could in fact be bluffing in this interview. Though Poulter may not be reading everything circulating online about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Adam’s relationship with Gamora from the comics is fairly well-known, and a facet of the character’s comic background that one would think Poulter would be more aware of than he seems to be in this interview. Poulter’s confused response to the theory is still noteworthy, yet should be taken with a grain of salt until trailers and more press are released for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
