Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 actor Zoe Saldaña says filming the trilogy's final film was a sentimental but sour experience at the start. The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise first launched in 2014, and after the characters and director James Gunn's style resonated with critics and audiences, the sequel arrived in 2017. When Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 finally arrives on May 5, 2023, it will have been six years since Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Saldaña), Drax (Dave Bautista), and Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) have appeared separate from the Avengers and in their own Guardians film.

Saldaña's Gamora character is among the most complicated figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Gamora is adoptive daughter of the Infinity Saga's primary antagonist, Thanos (Josh Brolin), and her narrative drive in the first two Guardians films hinges in-part on evading attacks from her equally lethal sister, Nebula (Karen Gillan). Gamora is killed by Thanos during Avengers: Infinity War, but the character has been revived for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, albeit with a consciousness that hails from a different timeline.

In an interview with EW, Saldaña explains that filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 wrought conflicted emotions. While the Guardians were assembled for another cosmic adventure, it meant that this creative arrangement was meeting its end. It's widely understood that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ends this trilogy of storytelling, and there are unanswered questions about what's next for Peter Quill, Gamora & Co. Read Saldana's full comment below:

[Filming] started bitter in the beginning cause obviously you're anticipating the end, but I'm just so happy that once again I got to work with great people. I had an evolution that I witnessed of myself, but also my director and my cast. I just felt very blessed and grateful. It was a very sweet departure, I have to say.

What Gamora's Story May Be in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to highly Gamora-intensive. At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Peter Quill pledges to find Gamora, and after appearing in Thor: Love and Thunder, the remaining Guardians take to the skies to find their compatriot. During the San Diego Comic-Con 2022 , Marvel executives confirmed that Gamora is now the leader of interstellar buccanneer gang the Ravagers. It can be safely assumed that Quill will find Gamora during Vol. 3; the trick will be getting her to re the Guardians team, as the time fracture in the MCU left her with no memories or connection to Quill.

As Saldaña alluded to her in comments, filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was enjoyable, but a constant reminder that their run as a team is approaching its natural end. The Guardians franchise concluding will put a bow on Gunn's contributions to the MCU, as the filmmaker departs to become the new co-CEO of DC Studios. Post-Gunn, the Guardians of the Galaxy banner could be carried by newcomer Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), a powerful MCU character slated to debut in the film.
