James Gunn reveals the approximate The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special runtime. After being fired and rehired by Disney to make Predicting Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special's New MCU CharacterAhead of Marvel Studios' D23 2022 , James Gunn responded to a series of questions about potential Guardians of the Galaxy-related announcements that could happen. After confirming that he will not be in attendance and that no Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 or The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special footage will be shown, he did respond to another question on Twitter about the special's runtime. Gunn confirmed that The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special's runtime is roughly 40 minutes.

All that Gunn or Marvel previously said about the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special runtime was that it would be similar in length to a TV special. That led to speculation that it could be around an hour in length, or possibly even closer to an hour-and-a-half. Gunn's new tweet confirms that the Guardians of the Galaxy's Phase 4 return will be a bit shorter than previous estimates. It will be on par with the runtime of some Marvel Disney+ show episodes now.

Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special's runtime being 40 minutes will still mean audiences are treated to a lot of extra Guardians action before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Since it has been over five years since viewers have seen the Guardians in a Gunn-directed MCU project, the Disney+ special should be a nice appetizer before 2023's trilogy capper. It, unfortunately, seems like the first official look at the project and a release date announcement are not imminent. Hopefully, more news on The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will come before too long.
