Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday SpecialThe Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special features a tearfully sweet scene between Mantis and Peter, and fans aren't anywhere close to getting over it. The entire special, which premiered on Disney+ on November 26, hinges around Mantis (Pom Klementieff) trying to help Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) have a perfect Christmas, partially because she feels guilty about keeping the fact that they have the same father a secret. However, she is finally honest with him in the special's final moments and he happily accepts her into his family with a warm embrace.

This sweet moment at the end of a brief reintroduction to the world of the Guardians of the Galaxy proved to be too much for some Marvel Cinematic Universe fans. They took to Twitter to share their tearful reactions to the scene, celebrating how tender their final moment was and sharing their emotional reaction to the lengths Mantis went to give Peter an incredible Christmas (including kidnapping real-life actor Kevin Bacon, playing himself). In addition to sharing stills from the scene, fans have been sharing crying-related memes, and in some cases even photos of themselves reacting to the moment. What's Next for Mantis & Peter in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Star Lord and Mantis Are Siblings in Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

Mantis is the newest member of the core Guardians of the Galaxy group, having ed the crew after meeting them on Ego and helping them defeat him during the events of 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. As such, she has had to work a little harder to feel like part of the fold, and this moment seemingly clinched that for the characters and fans alike. Revealing her relationship to Peter gave him a gift she couldn't have conceived, reminding him that he isn't truly alone in the universe despite losing both his parents and his love Gamora (Zoe Saldaña).

This revelation will likely be hugely important to the emotional throughline of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is coming to theaters on May 5, 2023. That film seems to be setting itself up to reunite Peter with the new version of Gamora that exists in his timeline, the version from the past who hasn't had a change of heart and is still committed to Thanos. The fact that he has an entire history with a person who's right in front of him who can't it (and likely actively despises him) will surely present him with great emotional challenges that his new link to Mantis can help him cope with.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special may have seemed like a sweet trifle, but the story laid out here will likely have huge repercussions going forward. At the moment it is unknown exactly how Mantis will help the team defeat their new enemy Adam Warlock (Will Poulter). However, it now seems that she will be aligned with Peter in a way fans have never seen before, which gives him a powerful new ally in this fight.
