Zoe Saldańa opens up about the possibility of Gamora and Star-Lord reuniting after the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. James Gunn wraps up his stint at Marvel Studios with the threequel. Aside from that, however, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 also marks the end of an era for the beloved cosmic players, as the original roster caps off their brilliant run as active heroes.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ends with many of the original of the lineup going their separate ways. Despite hopes that Star-Lord and Gamora would rekindle their romance in the film, Gunn opted to keep the pair separated, as she remains without recollection of her Sacred Timeline variant's time with the team. Despite this, however, Saldańa floats the idea that it may not be the end for the pair in an interview with THR. Read her full quote below:

"I think the whole thing with Peter bothered her, because even though she had no recollection of who he was, she had a sense that it must have been special. And I appreciated that takeaway because it kind of gave us the hope that if the Guardians seek help again from the Ravagers, maybe Gamora and Peter will find a way back into each other’s lives, even if it’s just as friends."

Can Gamora & Star-Lord Still Get Back Together In The MCU?

Gamora and Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy

While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 marks the end of an era, the story for the beloved cosmic heroes will continue. It's difficult to imagine Marvel Studios dropping such a popular sub-franchise, which means that many of the characters will eventually return to the MCU to continue their respective arcs. Whether that means that the original roster will re-assemble is currently uncertain, especially since the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 effectively establishes a brand-new roster led by Rocket Raccoon.

Although he has separated from his old team, Chris Pratt's Star-Lord is confirmed to make his MCU comeback, whether through a solo movie or TV project. Considering the confirmed slate for the Multiverse Saga, it may be a while before any of these proposed projects come to fruition, but it could be the perfect avenue to stage a Gamora and Peter Quill reunion. It's worth noting that like Drax actor, Dave Bautista, Saldańa was vocal about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 being her final MCU film. However, that doesn't mean that she cannot be brought back down the road.

In the meantime, it's safe to assume that Marvel Studios' focus will be developing Rocket's new Guardians team that includes Will Poulter's Adam Warlock. Unlike Avengers: Endgame, no major hero dies in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which makes bringing them all back so much easier. That being said, fans will have to wait a while before seeing them together again in the MCU.
