With the Guild Wars 2 End of Dragons expansion, one of the most highly anticipated features is the new Siege Turtle mount. Players have been asking for a multiplayer mount for years and the Siege Turtle has always been the most popular option amongst the community. Clearly, ArenaNet agrees.
When Guild Wars 2 finally added mounts in its 2017 expansion Path of Fire, it was one of the most overwhelmingly ed features the game has ever had because ArenaNet did not simply add mounts to their MMO as a faster form of travel. Each mount was carefully crafted with high-quality animations and designed to exemplify a unique form of movement, offering players a reason why they should constantly be using all of the mounts at their disposal. But while players had access to faster movement on land, in water, and through the air, a mount designed for multiple players became the most heavily requested amongst the player base.
According to an ArenaNet press release, one of the new features included in the Guild Wars 2 End of Dragons expansion will be the game's first multiplayer mount, the Siege Turtle. This is not a mount that was designed to be the fastest form of travel as much as it is intended to allow friends to simply move together and for veterans to guide new players through various areas of the world. The Siege Turtle is a welcome addition to the game not just because it's a multiplayer mount, but because it was a loved and iconic creature from Cantha that players first met in 2006's Guild Wars Factions expansion.
For fans of the original Guild Wars, Siege Turtles are an iconic aspect of the series' first trip to this region of the world. Cantha is home to the Luxons and the Kurzicks, two opposing factions who were consistently at odds with each other and formed the foundation for faction-based rewards and player vs. player content. In their conflict against the Kurzicks, the Luxons used these massive turtles with cannons mounted on their shells to assault fortresses across the Echovald Forest and defend the Jade Sea. These Siege Turtles were an incredibly cool concept that was loved by the community and their return, in the form of a multiplayer mount, is a major addition that Guild Wars 2 desperately needed.
Guild Wars 2 is in a difficult position. The game's Icebrood Saga, which promised to deliver expansion-quality features, underwhelmed many players. With Final Fantasy 14 surging in popularity, it's critical that Guild Wars 2 delivers a high-quality expansion and reignites the ion of its player base. By introducing a long-requested multiplayer mount with the beloved Siege Turtle, it's a strong indication that ArenaNet knows what Guild Wars 2 End of Dragons must accomplish.
Guild Wars 2 End of Dragons will release in February 2022.
