The iconic Twisted Marionette world boss from please many Guild Wars 2 fans.
Guild Wars 2 was developed by ArenaNet and launched in 2012, but it has been kept alive by several major post-launch expansions. Currently a free-to-play title, Guild Wars 2 players can create, customize, and level their own character from a combination of five races and eight professions to engage in small-scale, tactical combat along with larger-scale combat. Taking place in the high-fantasy world of Tyria, Guild Wars 2 featured major post-launch updates with the introduction of the "Living World," introducing continuing story for players to follow throughout future expansions. The Living World introduced brand new settings and characters in the various seasons of content, including the Twisted Marionette in Living World Season 1. The Living World was followed up by two major expansions, "Heart of Thorns" and "Path of Fire," as well as other supplementary additions to the Living World. A future expansion, "End of Dragons" was announced in 2020.
The latest trailer for Guild Wars 2 is headlined by the return of one of the enemies first introduced in the early days of the Living World. The trailer shows off the return of the boss as she lords over the Eye of the North, as menacing as ever but with some adjustments to bring it up to Guild Wars 2's modern design standards. The trailer concludes with the splash "the super twisted weapon returns" enticing players to venture out with their friends and guildmates to unlock new achievements.
Although not mentioned in the trailer, the Twisted Marionette will come as part of the update that brings the Legendary Armory, a quality-of-life update that will allow players to access their Legendary equipment across all characters on their . This will provide a new approach for players to store, sort, and use their rarest and most powerful gear. The Legendary Armory will also provide tighter integration for Legendary gear in the Equipment Templates interface and will remove transmutation costs for Legendary gear.
While the Legendary Armory will be a great update for Guild Wars 2 players, the return of the Twisted Marionette has clearly stolen the show. Already, players are raving about the return of this old-school boss and discussing their favorite encounters from past seasons. Hopefully, Guild Wars 2 will continue to reward their longtime fans with more blasts from the past.
