If there's anything Stan Lee to Adam Hughes have given their thoughts on the idea. A stunning new Instagram post by cosplayer Bex (@Bex.Games) gives fans another reason to consider the late Gwen Stacy as Peter's best girlfriend.

Most comic book fans know about Gwen's death in The Amazing Spider-Man #121. Even though Spider-Gwen (a spider-powered variant from another universe) has taken over as the main version of Gwen Stacy, several stories still revisit Peter's time with Gwen. For example, MARVELS #4, by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross, retells the story of Gwen Stacy's death in a more contemporary way. Photographer Phil Sheldon interviews Gwen to absolve Spider-Man of killing Captain Stacy. Phil doesn't know what to believe, but Gwen states she doesn't blame Spider-Man. Soon after the interview, Green Goblin captures her, and Gwen's tragic death happens. It just shows Gwen's heroic attitude even before she became a superhero.

Bex's cosplay takes inspiration from Adam Hughes' art as she sits on a city bench with a colorful tree behind her. Fans can see Gwen's classic coat on the seat, along with her purple skirt and black sweater. The original cover the cosplay is based on was Adam Hughes himself honoring classic Gwen Stacy in a variant cover for Jason Latour's Spider-Gwen #1 from 2015. Like Bex's photo, Hughes' art displays autumn leaves falling behind Gwen as she sits on a bench.

Bex also refers to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 when she writes, "some promises are meant to be broken," in her Instagram post's description. According to Bex, Gwen and Peter's relationship in the second Marc Webb movie was seemingly a big inspiration for this photo. She also states this new outfit is her favorite cosplay so far. Her homages to comic-inspired looks continue to impress. She also encourages Marvelites to let her know what they think of the new costume and picture, stating, "I'm majorly enjoying making comic-inspired looks, so please leave suggestions if you have any!"

Even with the importance of Spider-Gwen in the current Marvel Comics continuity, Gwen's black, purple, and green outfit may be her most famous attire. Even Mary Jane adopts a variation of this look in some comics, and it's the first thing she wears in Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man movie. Even with all the Spider-Man media, Bex's Gwen Stacy costume will no doubt be a timeless capture of an already timeless Marvel look.
