The creative team for Deadpool 3 has promised to sustain the tone of the previous two films for the introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the fans’ positive response to the MCU characters hopping into different universes and the introduction of many of the West Coast Avengers, there is some fan speculation that Gwenpool will be ing the MCU to help bridge the gap between properties and continue the expansion of the multiverse theory.

Although her print history is short, Gwenpool’s fourth-wall-breaking powers and humor proved that her character variants would be a welcome addition. Given that the MCU has recently took a dark turn with the Multiverse of Madness, Gwenpool's presence and iconic powers could bring back the comedy and make for some hilarious scenes. It'll just be interesting to see how they will incorporate some of them if it does come to .

Breaking The Fourth Wall

For readers, seeing characters interacting with the textual elements of the comics is a hallmark of a fourth wall break. It brings focus to the ridiculousness of an omnipresent narrator and addresses the flaws of an imperfect narrator while managing to lighten the tone of the monologue.

One of Gwen's best fourth wall breaks is her expansion of a text bubble before it overpowers her. Not only is the massive bubble of pink text funny, but the unintentional result of sending her flying out of a window makes for a splash page that highlights the absurdity of comic book physics.

Making Fun Of Comic Book Aging

Two Gwenpools sitting in white space talking about Comic Aging

Besides calling out the Wolverine title Old Man Logan for suddenly aging up their titular hero, Gwen jokes frequently in the last pages of the 2016 run of The Unbelievable Gwenpool about the lack of consistency and quick span of the aging of comic book characters to further their plots and expand the longevity of their titles.

While she's jumping from to in a flash-forward sequence summarizes the longevity of her character, Gwen directly calls out her own lack of aging to a secondary character who also acknowledges and pokes fun at Gwen's lack of age progression.

Fighting Evil Self

It's almost impossible to not include one of the longest-running tropes in comics with a character like Gwenpool, so of course, she has to face off against her own evil self at some point. Since both Gwens have the same reality-altering powers, Evil Gwen's first appearance is dictated by the scope of Spider-Man's flashback of Evil Gwen, making her giant.

Evil Gwen’s sarcasm and snark to convince Gwenpool to imagine Evil Gwen as regular size to even both characters to the same size demonstrates the consistency of humor across multiple characterizations of Gwen. Given that the MCU has already seen several variants clash and meet, there's always a possibility that this can happen again in the future.

Taking To Creative Team

Christopher Hastings appears in the clouds in Gwenpool

There are a few more adult-oriented jokes in Gwenpool Strikes Back, as this title was geared more towards Deadpool's fanbase, but the best has roots in a much tamer property. In a fourth wall break, Gwen directly reaches out to Christopher Hasting, the character’s first writer.

The two talk about Gwen's reality-bending powers and how some fans have responded to his creation of the character. This fourth-wall break is humorous enough, but the visualization of this interaction is a pop-culture reference itself, with Hasting's face appearing in the clouds like Mufasa in Disney’s The Lion King

Gutter Space

Gwenpool pops into Gutter Space

When Gwenpool engages with the gutter space that separates her s, it's a clear indicator that fourth wall breaks are going to be humorous and visually engaging (and a prime example of the powers that make Gwen the strongest of the West Coast Avengers).

Whether it's interacting with a past or future version of herself, editing her own s, or providing some exposition of her own, Gwen's time in the gutter is one of her best powers for the furthering of plot-driven content. Her visuals for these scenes are often set up for fun expression-heavy artistry, which allows for a more dimensional feeling to the character (both writing and artistically).

Punisher And The Bees

Gwenpool puts Bees under Punisher's Bed

Gwen's powers aren't always used in the comics to fight. Instead, She uses her powers to create chaos and prank other characters in the Marvel universe. One of the ways she does this is by pranking the Punisher. She climbs through the gutter spaces in Gwenpool Strikes Back and manifests containers of bees under Castle's bed, over and over again.

The use of her powers in this way serves multiple purposes. Beyond exhibiting the absurdity of her powers, it also defines the goofiness and self-awareness of the character, since Gwen knows this is the end of a mini-series.

Multiple Gwens

Gwen uses her powers to summon all the variations of Gwenpool across the Marvel print universe, giving the readers the chance to see Gwen's thoughts about her variants firsthand. It's funny to see both her thoughts about the character and the differences between the character designs.

The character descriptions and designs highlight the scope of the character's appeal to readers, a fact which is not lost on Gwen the narrator. Even in her differentiation from the others, she focuses on the specific styles of the characters (like how cool West Coast Avengers Gwen is, which is why she’s the best friend of Kate Bishop).

Jane As Natalie Portman

Gwenpool

Gwen's intermingling of the Marvel Ultimate universe in comics (the so-called "real world") and the Marvel Cinematic Universe creates one of her funniest moments when she references Natalie Portman's role as Jane Foster in the MCU's Thor movies.

Between Gwen’s chaotic energy during this fight with Thor and her exuberance at being part of the comic book world, Jane’s name slips from Gwen’s brain, leading to the out-of-universe reference. This moment has been made funnier withThor: Love and Thunder.

Using Thor's Arm To Hold Mjolnir

Gwenpool Lifts Thor Mjolnir Hulk Nutshot

A key element of humor in the more adult-targeted versions of the character's story is the level of absurdity exhibited in the violent moments of the comics. The wildest of these moments is when Gwen reaches through the s and steals the severed arm of Thor and then utilizes it as a glove to wield Mjolnir.

This poking of fun at the moral integrity of her character is a goofy way to emphasize the absurdity of violence and logic in the world of comics (as well as the tendency of these characters to make morally dubious choices in the name of heroics).
