Ubisoft has announced that its next Assassin's Creed game will take place in feudal Japan. The game series has attracted many players and its storyline and great gameplay, has led to many fans taking on the difficult challenge of speedrunning through each game.
Speedruns can be fun, and many players take part in them but the fastest speedrunners in the world are a notch above the rest, completing extremely complex games in mere hours where it would take other players hours to do the same.
Doom (2016)
The Doom franchise has garnered a massive following and is a favorite among players of FPSs. Its intense and brutal storyline and gameplay are among the many reasons why players love it. While the gameplay may sound simple enough, it doesn't mean it will be an easy run-through, especially on a player's first attempt.
Players must go through hordes of demons and different levels, which will get more complicated as time goes on. It will take a few times to get into the swing of it due to the increasing number of demons and challenges the players will face. However, that doesn't mean it can't be done, as a few have done a successful run-through within less than 20 minutes.
Outlast (2013)
Outlast is a highly recommended horror run and hide game for those who enjoy a challenge and want to be scared. The game has gained notoriety as being one of the scariest hide-and-run games and one of the more difficult ones to rush through.
Players will be at the edge of their seats while they try to hide and outrun the inmates trying to catch and kill them. There are a lot of moments where players will find themselves getting turned around or caught if they are not careful enough. But after a few tries, it can be much easier after getting to know the area and what to expect. Due to their practice and hard work, there have been players who have completed the game in under 30 minutes.
Cuphead (2017)
isn't just known for being one of the hand-drawn games that provide players with great gameplay. It is also known for being a challenging game to beat in record time.
Cuphead is a surprisingly difficult platforming game, and while the controls, setting, and concept are simple enough, its enemies and bosses are not easy to defeat due to their abilities, and they don't get any easier as time goes on. Despite this, some players have managed to beat the game, which can take others 10 hours or more to defeat, in under 40 minutes.
Mirror’s Edge (2008)
Mirror's Edge is a stunning visual game, that brought platforming elements into action adventure gameplay. It's strong use of primary colours and overall visuals were complimented, however the game itself proved quite a challenge to players.
Mirror's Edge has some great level designs and has a different concept that many players enjoy. However, some players found it difficult to work through some of the puzzles throughout the levels and did not enjoy the first-person perspective, making it more difficult due to the controls. Despite this, some have been able to defeat the game in less than 30 minutes.
Tetris: The Grand Master 3 – Terror Instinct (2005)
Puzzle games can provide plenty of fun for those who want to test their problem-solving skills. Tetris, one of the older puzzle games, includes plenty of different levels for those who wish to take up the challenge of trying to defeat them in record time.
Tetris: The Grand Master 3 – Terror Instinct is one of the hardest Tetris games. Puzzles becoming more complex with each level and the speed in which they need to be completed increases until players can barely move the blocks before they're placed. This makes it extremely difficult to beat on the hardest difficultly, but after a few attempts and practice, a select few players were able to beat the game in under 5 minutes.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998)
shows the player a stronger, different side to Zelda and hours of fun.
Many found Ocarina of Time to be one of the more challenging Legend of Zelda games due to the difficulty of the puzzles and feeling lost in sections of the game. Many players have had to look up walkthroughs from other players due to how difficult it can be. For some, it can take up to 40 hours to beat because of this; but those who have dedicated a lot of time and energy to the game, after plenty of practice, have been able to beat the game in less than 10 minutes.
Cloudberry Kingdom (2013)
There are a lot of games out there known for taking players hours to complete due to the number of levels and other challenges. Then there is the game Cloudberry Kingdom that can entertain and overwhelm players at the same time.
Cloudberry Kingdom is a humorous, fun, and challenging game to beat. The game has 300 levels and can take eight or more hours to finish, depending on how patient and determined players are due to how difficult each level can get. Despite this, top speedrunners have defeated the game in under 12 minutes.
GoldenEye 007 (1997)
When thinking of the best spy games, one that comes to mind is GoldenEye 007. It is also one game that reminds players of how challenging 90s games could be.
Goldeneye 007 has engaging gameplay, a great story based on the film of the same name, and is a favorite vintage FPS. The challenges players encounter are the level designs and enemy placement, making it harder to navigate. Despite these being only some of the challenges, speedrunners who took up the game were able to beat it within 30 minutes or less.
Spelunky (2008)
Spelunky is a randomized multi-platformer with cute visuals and min-bosses to fight along the way. It's an excellent example that even the easiest looking games can be the hardest to beat.
While its mechanics are not overly complex, its levels, traps, and monsters make it more difficult for players to beat. Some players will find themselves putting in hours of gameplay, while others have won the game within 10 minutes or less.
Skyrim (2011)
If there is one game that Bethesda is well known for, it's Series, has been a fan favorite for years. Skyrim is an RPG with a great story, plenty of side quests, and areas to explore. It's also one game that is difficult to rush through for several reasons.
In the game, players must boost their levels and go through specific challenges that can take up a lot of time, aside from the side quests. It's a game that has plenty of details and stories to tell throughout it. If players are deadset on focusing on the main storyline, it can take up to 36 or more hours to complete. However, some experts have been able to beat it in 2 hours or less.
