This was a romance that was so well handled and developed that it was hard for fans to see them break things off.
Fortunately for fans, the HBO Max series Harley Quinn saw the return of comics' favorite couple beginning with its second season. Plus, it wasn't just back. It was being heavily embraced. Series showrunners Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker saw the adoration for Harley and Ivy by fans and wanted to bring it back with an emphasis on making it stronger. This led to a second season where the two finally realize their feelings for each other and a third that explored the ups and downs of their new romance. However, regardless of the lows of their relationship, Halpern and Schumacker have ensured fans that the two will never break up like the comics. This doesn't mean that they won't face difficulties like many real relationships though.
In Harley Quinn The Animated Series: Legion of Bats #3, a comic spin-off of the series following its third season, a piece of Ivy's past is beginning to make herself known. While she was hinted at the end of each issue before this one, her identity has now been revealed: she's Bella, Poison Ivy's ex-girlfriend. In fact, she's Ivy's "first true love" and the two would have still been together in present day had Ivy's Joker, Dr. Woodrue, not stepped in and driven a divide between the two. Now, she's officially back and based on the duo's first meeting since they split in the past, Bella is clearly wanting to rekindle that love between the two...and it looks like Ivy may still have some feelings for her based on her reaction to Bella's advances. This is going to be a huge test for Ivy and Harley to face as their beloved romance by fans everywhere comes into question.
Ivy and Harley's Biggest Secrets Will Likely Test the Boundaries of Their Love
Of course, Ivy isn't the only one harboring secrets. While she's reuniting with an old flame, Harley is quietly working with the Bat Family to learn more about being a hero. She's even gone as far as getting her own Bat-themed costume. It's currently her biggest secret she's keeping from Ivy because she's afraid of what she might think. Ivy knows that Harley wants to give being a hero a try, but she doesn't know that she's partnering up with her greatest nemeses. This is undoubtedly setting up that both of their secrets will come to light at some point in the story and throw a wrench in their relationship. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that it will be the last straw. There will likely be a fight between the two, but after the flames settle, their love could emerge from the ashes stronger than ever as they vow to no longer keep secrets. One thing's for certain though: the journey to that point will likely not be pretty as the two face the difficulties of their romance.
This isn't the first time in Harley and Ivy's long history where they've faced challenges in their relationship. In fact, it was a conflict in their futures that led to the two breaking up in the comics. However, things will undoubtedly be different this time. HBO Max's version of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy arguably have a stronger romance than ever, and even if it's tested, the two will still find a way to work through things for the best regardless of what happens.
