The story starts at the same time as the Deathly Hallows epilogue when Harry, Ginny, Ron, and Hermione proudly watch their children leave for Hogwarts at King's Cross station. At this time, Harry is the Head of Magical Law Enforcement, Hermione is the Minister for Magic, and Ron manages Weasley's Wizard Wheezes in Diagon Alley.

Aboard the Hogwarts Express, Harry and Ginny's son, Albus Severus Potter, befriends Scorpius Malfoy, the son of Draco. However, as hinted at by the fan-made trailer, Scorpius is believed to be the son of Voldemort, and there are a few signs suggesting the Dark Lord may be returning.
