If one mentions "Harry Potter," "Ron Weasley" is often the next name to come to mind. Harry and Ron's friendship is the subject of a lot of adoration, as well as criticism, within the Harry Potter fandom. The pair, along with Hermione Granger, has gone through hell and back throughout the seven books (and eight films), and their friendship has gone through many ups and downs.
From feuding during the Triwizard Tournament to skipping their seventh year to destroy Horcruxes, Harry and Ron have many moments throughout the series where it is apparent just how strong their friendship is.
They Got Into A Flying Car Together
It is rare to find something more exciting for a pair of 12-year-olds than getting behind the wheel of a flying car. And while Ron and Harry do get in trouble for it, it is still an amazing moment in their friendship.
After not being able to get through to Platform 9 3/4 (thanks to Dobby), Harry and Ron steal Ron's father's car and fly to Hogwarts. It shows how much the two trust each other and, ittedly, it'll be a good story to tell their kids.
They Shared Food On The Train
Harry and Ron's friendship began on the train to Hogwarts and it is an adorable moment. They end up in the same carriage and end up sharing Harry's food. He describes it as "a nice feeling, sitting there with Ron, eating their way through all Harry’s pasties."
Harry has lived a solitary and alienated life and Ron is the first person that he gets to share anything with. This is the first of many helping hands that the two will share throughout the series.
Ron Encouraged Harry To Go After Quirell
During the infamous chess match near the climax of Ron firmly tells him that he is the only one who can stop the stone from falling into the wrong hands.
This is the first of many examples of Ron fully believing in Harry. Throughout the series, even though Ron has his doubts, he always returns to Harry's side when it matters most.
Harry Choosing Ron Over Malfoy
This moment, as insignificant as it may look, is quite important. When the new students arrive at Hogwarts in Sorceror's Stone, Draco approaches Harry and his friends and offers his friendship, while not even hiding his disdain for the Weasleys. When he holds out his hand to Harry, Harry refuses it.
It shows not only how perceptive Harry is when it comes to choosing his allies, but it also demonstrates Harry's morality and how he will always the underdogs.
Harry Saved Ron During The Triwizard Tournament
During Goblet of Fire, despite Harry and Ron's spats throughout the film and novel, Harry still cares deeply for Ron and values him as a friend. This is made apparent when, for one of the challenges, he has to save something very important to him ... and it turns out to be Ron.
Even though he and Ron have been at odds up to this point, even outside forces can tell how much he means to Harry, and he will go to great lengths to protect him.
Ron Stood Up For Harry About Voldemort's Return
In Order of the Phoenix, Harry comes back to school and he is less than popular. After witnessing Voldemort's return (as well as the death of Cedric Diggory), he has been branded as a liar. When Seamus Finnegan openly confronts him in the Gryffindor Common Room, Ron steps up to defend Harry.
Ron has had to carry the expectations of his family on his shoulders. However, when it comes to Harry, he will go into his best friend's corner, despite the enemies he risks making.
Harry Helped Ron Improve At Quidditch
Also taking place in Order of the Phoenix, Ron becomes a Keeper on the Quidditch team. Ron struggles to balance his practice and studies, and the Slytherins writing denigrating songs about him do nothing to help his confidence. Harry then decides to pretend to pour a Felix Felicis (a luck potion) into Ron's drink, resulting in Ron playing amazingly.
Even though he gets furious at Harry and Hermione afterward when they reveal what they did, it shows to what lengths Harry will go to lift his friend's spirits.
Ron Committed To Hunting Horcruxes With Harry
When Harry tells his friends that he is not returning for his final year at Hogwarts because he decides to go and destroy all of Voldemort's Horcruxes, instead of talking him out of it, they both throw their own lives upside down so that they can follow him.
In Ron's case, he gets his brothers to help him transfigure their family ghoul to make his family think that he is ill. Just as Harry has risked his life to protect Ron, the latter always reciprocates when it comes to Harry.
Ron Helped Harry Destroy A Horcrux
In Deathly Hallows, when Harry goes to destroy Slytherin's locket, the Horcrux almost drowns him in a pond. However, Ron arrives just in time and sinks the Sword of Gryffindor into it, destroying it and saving Harry.
This moment is significant because it occurs weeks after Ron abandons the Horcrux hunt, after accusing Harry of not caring about everyone they left behind. However, at the end of the day, this event only further cements that the pair will endanger their own lives to save the other.
Harry Saved Ron After He's Poisoned
This moment is very much a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Ron accidentally eats chocolates spiked with a love potion meant for Harry. When Harry takes him to go find an antidote, he drinks poisoned mead meant for Dumbledore and almost dies. He only survives because Harry uses a bezoar on him.
This moment underlines just how quickly Harry will jump into action when it comes to his friends. Ron would not be alive if he had panicked and broken down.
