What's Next For The Harry Potter Franchise?

The Wizarding World seems to be over, but the Harry Potter franchise continues to expand with a show – what's next? Here's what could happen.

Felton will appear first as Draco Malfoy on November 11, 2025, at the Lyric Theatre in New York City, and he will play the role for 19 weeks. This makes the idea of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child becoming its own movie intriguing for fans. The story takes place in the future where Draco and Harry's sons are attending Hogwarts and end up getting involved in some dangerous situations, even accidentally changing the past and ruining what Harry accomplished.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child began its theater run in 2016.

Felton said that he is the same age as Draco in the story, and he is excited about getting started. "Being a part of the Harry Potter films has been one of the greatest honors of my life," he said. "ing this production will be a full-circle moment for me." With that said, could this be the start of getting a Cursed Child movie off the ground? Unfortunately, that likely isn't the case.

Will A Harry Potter & The Cursed Child Movie Ever Happen?

The Main Harry Potter Cast Aren't Likely To Return

Scorpius and Albus in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

There is almost no chance that Harry Potter & The Cursed Child ever becomes a movie, at least not in how many fans want to see it. Most fans of the franchise would want to see Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint back as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley. Having Tom Felton back as Draco Malfoy is a nice start, but without the three leading actors returning, it isn't something that the studio would have faith in.

Harry Potter & The Cursed Child Movie: Will It Happen? What The Cast Has Said & Everything We Know

What does the HBO Harry Potter TV series mean for a Harry Potter & The Cursed Child movie - is it dead, or likelier now than ever?

The problem is that none of the three lead stars are on good with J. K. Rowling. With the author promising to put all the money she makes from the franchise into programs that the actors are morally against, there is no chance they agree to star in a movie that would finance them. Rowling has also made comments that show she no longer respects them thanks to them standing by their beliefs, so she likely wouldn't want them back either.

Don't expect Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to get made with his former co-stars.

Of course, it could happen, but not for another decade. The HBO Max Harry Potter series has a new set of young actors playing Harry, Ron, and Hermione, and when that series ends, maybe those actors could take on the roles of the characters as adults. However, even with Tom Felton back, don't expect Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to get made with his former co-stars stepping away from the franchise.
