Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is the fourth movie in the series, hitting screens in 2005 after The Prisoner Of Azkaban. The Boy Who Lived's fourth year at Hogwarts is his toughest yet, with Daniel Radcliffe's character having to contend with the Triwizard Tournament and Lord Voldemort's return to power.
It's certainly the darkest film in the series up to this point, and a lot happens in this film. Take a look back at the five characters who were in the movie the most, and the five that were in the film the least.
Least: Angelina Johnson (:30)
Angelina Johnson is always a peripheral figure in the Harry Potter movies and considerably more fleshed out in the source material. She only appears briefly in the Goblet of Fire, during one of it's funnier moments.
Fred Weasley, while looking for somebody to go to the Yule Ball with, throws a crumpled piece of paper at Angelina to get her attention during a study class overseen by Severus Snape. He then invites her to the dance and she accepts, giggling away in the process. Ron then attempts this same trick on Hermione Granger, but it doesn't work - because she's already said yes to Viktor Krum.
Most: Albus Dumbledore (14:15)
Albus Dumbledore spends most of the fourth movie in a state of torment and unease. He's certainly unsettled when Harry's name is plucked from the Goblet of Fire, relaying his concerns to both Minerva McGonagall and Severus Snape. He decides to let the suspicious goings-on play out - but ends up regretting his decision by the end of the film.
Dumbledore apologizes to Harry for using him as bait throughout the school year, but it's too little too late. His behavior is even worse in The Order of the Phoenix, with Dumbledore snubbing the student at a time when he's struggling the most. While he was a brilliant wizard with a brilliant mind, his actions don't always make sense.
Least: James Potter (:15)
James Potter makes several cameos throughout the Harry Potter movies - and the Goblet of Fire is one of them. He appears right at the very end, in Harry's hour of need.
James is one of Lord Voldemort's victims, who emerges in ghost form when the Dark Lord and Harry's wands connect, causing Priori Incantatem. He tells his son to get to the Portkey, with Cedric Diggory's ghost asking the Boy Who Lived to bring his body back for his father to bury. While it's difficult for Harry, he succeeds - enraging Voldemort in the process.
Most: Barty Crouch Jr. (16:15)
Barty Crouch Jr. appears as himself at both the beginning and end of the fourth Harry Potter movie. He's glimpsed plotting with Lord Voldemort and Wormtail, casts the Dark Mark at the Quidditch World Cup, and at the very end, is brought to justice by Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall and Severus Snape, following Lord Voldemort's return to power.
However, he fools everybody throughout the blockbuster by masquerading as Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, Alastor Moody. He helps Harry make his way through the Triwizard Tournament, giving him advice for the First Task and pushing Neville Longbottom into aiding him for the Second. Crouch Jr.'s fate at the end of the movie is uncertain but, in the book, he's subjected to the Dementor's Kiss - against the wishes of Albus Dumbledore.
Least: Hedwig (:15)
Hedwig is Harry's loyal owl and has just 15 seconds of action in The Goblet of Fire movie. It's a similar story in the book, with Hedwig being overlooked for the most part.
This is because Harry can't use her too often when writing to Sirius Black. As a Snowy owl, she stands out too much and would attract too much attention. This disgruntles her, especially when Harry ends up using Ron Weasley's own owl, Pigwidgeon, as an alternative. While this was unfortunate, it's better to be safe than sorry. Harry can't run the risk of Sirius being discovered, or he'd be handed straight back to the Dementors.
Most: Hermione Granger (16:30)
In news that probably won't surprise any fan, Hermione Granger is the third most-prominent character during the fourth movie in the series. The muggle-born wizard spends the majority of the year trying to help Harry through the Triwizard Tournament, but also has personal issues of her own.
Her relationship with Viktor Krum makes her the envy of Hogwarts and also causes a row with Ron, who is clearly jealous. It's also revealed that she is fully aware of the Unforgiveable Curses when Barty Crouch Jr explains them during a Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson, and she objects to them being used in front of the class, especially when she sees Neville Longbottom is in a state of immense distress. Little does she know, but Neville's own parents were tortured into insanity by Death Eaters many years before.
Least: Fawkes (:15)
Fawkes the Phoenix only makes a brief cameo in the fourth movie of the series and is seen on his perch during the scenes set in Albus Dumbledore's office.
In truth, the character doesn't appear that often in the films. His biggest time in the spotlight is in The Chamber of Secrets, where he comes to Harry's rescue following his showdown with a young Lord Voldemort - Tom Riddle. Fawkes' tears have healing powers and they save Harry from certain death after he was bitten by the Basilisk.
Most: Ron Weasley (20:30)
Ron is Harry's best friend - but that doesn't mean their relationship is always positive. The Goblet of Fire is the first movie where fans see the pair at loggerheads, with Ron accusing the Boy Who Lived of intentionally entering his name in the Triwizard Tournament. There's even swearing, with the youngest Weasley boy telling Harry to "P*** off" during a scene set in the Gryffindor dormitory.
Fortunately, he comes to his senses and backs Harry throughout his time in the competition. Ron also consoles him after the death of Cedric Diggory via Lord Voldemort's hand, and it's the first film where we see his love for Hermione Granger beginning to shine through, laying the foundations for the romantic relationship that's to come further down the line.
Least: Lily Potter (:15)
Like her husband James, Lily Potter also emerges from Lord Voldemort's wand during the dark wizard's showdown with Harry in the Little Hangleton graveyard.
She also urges Harry to get back to the Portkey to save his life and, along with James, Cedric and Frank Bryce, buys him a split second of time. This proves vital and her son gets to safety, although faces accusations of lies and deceit afterward from the magical community, who, for the most part, refused to believe the truth about Voldemort's second coming.
Most: Harry Potter (63:15)
As you'd expect, Harry is the most prominent character in The Goblet of Fire. His issues start before he even returns to Hogwarts, getting caught up in trouble at the Quidditch World Cup when Death Eaters go on the rampage. He suffers immensely when he becomes a contestant in the Triwizard Tournament, having to compete with experienced heads Viktor Krum, Cedric Diggory and Fleur Delacour for the prize.
While both events are traumatic for Harry, his biggest moment is when Lord Voldemort returns to power. He's able to narrowly escape the Dark Lord, thanks to a little help from his late parents, but he can't save Cedric, who is ruthlessly murdered by Wormtail on Voldemort's orders. This moment changes him forever.
