One of the most discriminatory debates in Harry Potter is the question of blood status for a witch or wizard. Of course, the Death Eaters are incredibly prejudiced towards muggle-borns and even half-bloods, but some muggle-born witches and wizards are some of the most powerful witches and wizards in the Wizarding World.

Although it's believed that muggle-borns descend from squibs (non-magic people born into magic families), there is not a single recorded incident of a squib having children in Harry Potter. Whether or not muggle-borns are descended from squibs is still up for debate, but here are the ten most powerful muggle-born witches and wizards from the Wizarding World.

Dennis Creevey

Dennis Creevey, Colin Creevey's younger brother (also known as the small blond-haired boy with the big camera), was three years below Harry Potter and started school during Harry's fourth year when the Triwizard Tournament took place. Dennis is at the bottom of this list of most powerful muggle-borns because there isn't much record of his life.

After being expelled during his third year because of his status as a muggle-born, it's unknown whether or not he (after being on the run with his family) ed Colin to fight at the Battle of Hogwarts. This makes him one of the least powerful muggle-born wizards because although he was a part of Dumbledore's Army, it wasn't recorded whether or not he was brave or powerful enough to fight in the Battle of Hogwarts.

Following Dennis is Colin Creevey, his older brother who was one year below the infamous Harry Potter. Colin is often ed by his big camera, constantly taking pictures in Harry's face. Like his younger brother, they both were a part of Dumbledore's Army during Harry's fifth year, taking a strong stance against Voldemort and his regime.

After being kicked out of school during his fifth year for being a muggle-born, Colin hid with his family because of persecution from Death Eaters. However, unlike his brother, Colin snuck into the Room of Requirement during the Battle of Hogwarts and fought courageously even though a Death Eater murdered him in the end. Colin has slightly more power than his younger brother, maybe because of age and wisdom, but most likely because he had more years under the influence of the ever-powerful Harry Potter, making him a more powerful wizard.

Justin Finch-Fletchley

Justin Finch-Fletchley was in the same year as Harry Potter, sorted into Hufflepuff, and was a member of Dumbledore's Army. Justin is a reasonably powerful wizard, and although there isn't a record of what happened to him after he was expelled due to his blood status when the Death Eaters took over Hogwarts, it's believed he went into hiding.

It's possible that Justin fought at the Battle of Hogwarts, and the main thing that sets him apart from the Creevey brothers is that he was in the same year as the Golden Trio and was often paired in classroom groups with them. The sheer power of the Golden Trio must have rubbed off on him, making him more powerful than the two Creevey brothers prior on this list.

Mary Elizabeth Cattermole

Making her cameo appearance in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows—Part One, Mary Elizabeth Cattermole is a muggle-born witch. She is slightly more powerful than the previous wizards on this list due to her life of experience and expertise.

If it weren't for the help of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, she would have most likely been sent to Azkaban because of her blood status and for being in trouble with the law. Because of the help of the Golden Trio, she was able to escape with her children, and it is unknown whether or not she survived the Second Wizarding War.

Dirk Cresswell

Dirk Cresswell, head of the Goblin Liaison Office in the Ministry of Magic, is next on this list because of how highly Arthur Weasley thought of him. When going to bat for Dirk after the Death Eaters took over the Ministry, he said Dirk "is ten times the wizard you are. And if he survives Azkaban, you'll have to answer to him, not to mention his wife, his sons, and his friends." It's mentioned that he has many friends in the Wizarding World, who all think of him as a "great wizard."

Despite Arthur's best efforts, Dirk was murdered by snatchers during Deathly Hallows—Part One after trying to forge a family tree. What makes Dirk a powerful muggle-born wizard is his natural fluency in Gobbledegook and was very naturally gifted at magic, according to his friends at the Ministry.

Myrtle Warren

Moaning Myrtle, also known as Myrtle Warren, is the fifth most powerful muggle-born witch/wizard because she influenced the Golden Trio and helped them over the years. Moaning Myrtle is perhaps the most powerful muggle-born ghost, other than Lily Potter because she physically stays in the girl's lavatory on the third floor for the foreseeable future.

Her influence in helping the Golden Trio brings her towards the top of this list because without Myrtle, the Golden Trio might have never found the Chamber of Secrets, nor would Harry have discovered the hidden meaning in the golden egg from the Triwizard Tournament.

Edward Tonks

Edward Tonks, the father of Tonks (aka Nymphadora Tonks), is one of the more powerful muggle-born wizards on this list because he was never an official part of the Order of Phoenix wife often let the Order use their home as a safe-house. By proxy, Edward Tonks is one of the more powerful muggle-born wizards because he had brought an incredibly talented and powerful witch into the world.

Also, on the run for his life during the Second Wizarding War, he was eventually caught and murdered by Snatchers.

Kendra Dumbledore

Kendra Dumbledore, the mother of Albus, Aberforth, and Ariana Dumbledore, was one of the most powerful muggle-born witches for bringing into the world one of the most powerful wizards of all time. As the mother of Albus Dumbledore, there had to have been a certain amount of natural talent and power that Kendra had to raise such a powerful wizard, but much else about her life is vastly unknown.

Because of raising such a powerful witch and wizards for children, when Ariana was fourteen, Kendra was accidentally killed due to an explosion caused by her daughter.

Lily Potter

Nearing the top of this list, Lily Potter is the second most powerful muggle-born witch of all time. At the time of her death, she committed a spell so powerful that not even Voldemort could stop it. And, even after death, at times when he most needed it, she was still able to communicate with her son (Harry Potter) and protect him.

The thing that makes her one of the most powerful muggle-born witches of all time is that she had a child so powerful that he could defeat the Dark Lord Voldemort. Without her natural ability and power, Harry would be nowhere near the wizard he is today.

Hermione Granger

And finally, at the top of this list is Hermione Granger. Hermione is the most powerful muggle-born witch of all time because of her natural ability and talent for magic, but she also deserves it. Out of everyone on this list, and perhaps everyone in the Wizarding World, there is no more determined and hard-working than Hermione Granger.

Whether her head's stuck in a 1000 page book, or she's guiding and aiding Harry and Ron all the steps of the way to defeating Voldemort, Hermione deserves to be at the top of this list because she never stops trying. Without Hermione, there's no doubt that Harry wouldn't have been able to defeat Voldemort and save the Wizarding World.
