The Autopsy Of Jane Doe

The Autopsy of Jane Doe is a film about two coroners who are given a new body, a Jane Doe, and attempt to uncover how she died. But with hows and whys of the post-mortem and mortician jobs, describing to audiences what exactly goes into it. This film also enjoys painting a picture, much like that of Hill House. The film never flashbacks to the horrors the body had faced, instead audience only hear of them in cryptic detail.

Hush

Hush was created and written by husband and wife duo, Mike Flanagan and Kate Siegel (Theodora from Hill House). Kate and Mike work together often, as Kate usually stars of cameos in Mike's works. This project was a complete collaboration between the pair as Kate co-wrote and starred in the film. Hush has many of the same elements as Hill House. It makes the audience aware that the character feels safe in her own home, but that now is being tested. The film follows Maddie Young, a deaf author who lives alone in a pretty secluded house. She knows the thumps and vibrations of the house, but someone distrubes that as they break in, attempting to kill her.

In Hill House, Steve swore his mother and sister were mentally ill and that Luke had been severly damaged from his childhood. He believes the bent-neck lady and all the other ghostly horrors the three of them saw in Hill House were just a manifestation of their poor mental health. Well, Relic takes that idea and plays with it a ton. The horror in this story is giving the illness a physical and horrifying form.

The Haunting

The Haunting (1999) is actually based on Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House novel, which the series is also a lose adaptation of. In the novel, four strangers meet at Hill House in order to conduct a summer-long paranormal investigation in order to prove that the supernatural does in fact exist. The characters are that of Eleanor (Nell) Vance, Theodora, Luke Sanderson, and Doctor Montague. The film takes a similar route as Dr. David Marrow (Liam Neeson) invites three stranges to Hill House for a sleep study on insomnia. His real plans, however, are to scare the guests in order to learn more about them. That task becomes easier once the housemates learn that Hill House is haunted by ghosts.

The Invisible Man (2020)

Elisabeth Moss as Cecilia Kass in "The Invisible Man."

The Invisible Man (2020) starred none other than Luke himself, Oliver Jackson-Cohen as the invisible man in the film, Adrian. This story is dark and deals with a toxic relationship plagued by abuse. After faking his death and remaining invisible, Adrian haunts and alienates his wife, Cecilia by making everyone around her believe that she has totally lost it. This alienation is really similar to Nell's alienation in the series and will make audiences wonder if their is a deeper psychological twist or if there really is a horror plaguing the protagonist.

The Invitation

The Invitation 2015 Will Wine Glass Poster (1)

The Invitation stars Steven Crain, Michiel Huisman, as David. Audiences of this film wont really know what is going on until the conclusion of the story but will definitely feel the creepy cult-like atmosphere of the characters. Will and his girlfriend attend Will's ex-wife (Edna) and new husband (David)'s dinner party in Will's old home. Talk about awkward, but Edna, David, and Will seem pretty okay with one another with no hard feelings. But Edna and David seem really differnet after their long vacation away from home, and they have new, yet strange friends over for the dinner party. Edna's behavior throughout the film is very similar to Olivia's during her decent into madness by the house. They both question their beliefs and their actions but not before it is too late.

Hereditary

The Graham family at the dinner table in Hereditary.

The horror surrounds the family and lingers, driving them all mad in their own ways. This film takes the heart within Hill House and stomps on it.
