The Defenders, which united all the leads of Marvel's Netflix collection. Iron Fist only ran for two seasons before being cancelled, and now the MCU is reattempting to branch out into television with new shows made for Disney+.
Steinfeld will make her own MCU debut in one of those shows. She'll appear in Hawkeye, the first project centered on Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton. Steinfeld will play Kate Bishop in the series. Fans championed Steinfeld as their ideal Kate when it was first announced the character would appear in Hawkeye, and after a year-plus of Steinfeld dodging questions about her casting, she was finally seen on set last fall. Marvel confirmed it soon after. Kate is expected to appear in more MCU projects beyond Hawkeye, so audiences should prepare to see a lot of her.
While speaking to Digital Spy, Jones discussed how he helped Steinfeld approach her Hawkeye audition. The two worked together on season 2 of Apple TV+'s Dickinson, and Steinfeld was in the middle of the audition process while they were filming. She kept asking Jones about what it was like working for Marvel, and this was what he told her:
I was just like, 'Do it, definitely. Be a part of the Marvel world. It's such a wonderful thing to say that you've been a part of. Marvel takes care of their actors so well. It's a universe that is so well-loved by so many people.' Just the experience as an actor to play a superhero is such a wonderfully challenging and rewarding experience. I was just like, 'Hailee, do it. Do it, and you won't regret it.' And now she's doing it.
It's wonderful to see that she's now in that world. I think she's going to be fantastic. I can't wait to see her as Hawkeye. I think it's wonderful casting, and I hope she goes on to have her own series and her own movie franchise, because she deserves it. She's such an amazing performer – and a great contribution to the Marvel Universe.
Though Jones' time with Marvel might've been short-lived and not as connected to the greater MCU, it's clear he still holds fond memories of Iron Fist and The Defenders. Jones recently revealed what the story would have been for Iron Fist season 3, and he seemed really ionate about it. Unfortunately, though, that likely won't ever come to . Still, it's nice that he still feels solid enough about Marvel to encourage Steinfeld.
Fans are quite excited to see Steinfeld play Kate in the MCU, and they've already been granted several peeks of her in costume on the Hawkeye set. Steinfeld has spoken openly about her own enthusiasm for the part, as well as her relief that her casting is now public. She's come a long way from seeking out Jones for advice, and one might say his words must've had an effect on her. Now Steinfeld can see for herself what working with Marvel is like. She'll be in business with them for a while, so hopefully Jones' experience matches hers.
Hawkeye premieres in late 2021 on Disney+.
