Greg Berlanti's Arrowverse and several shows on DC Universe. During WarnerMedia's big presentation in late 2019, the studio announced that Berlanti was developing two DC shows for the streaming platform with Green Lantern and Strange Adventures.
With the latter being the first anthology series in Berlanti's DC lineup, Crisis on Infinite Earths finale that revealed the HBO Max series will exist in the Arrowverse's new Multiverse. The Winter Press Tour for the Television Critics Association is currently taking place, and HBO Max was there to present new information about the platform and its content.
During the presentation, Sarah Aubrey, HBO Max Head of Original Content, revealed fresh details on the new Green Lantern series. Per Deadline, Aubrey confirmed that it will center around two specific Lanterns on Earth. But the series will also include one of the popular characters from the Green Lantern mythology as Sinestro will have a prominent role. Aubrey didn't specify whether Sinestro would start out as a Green Lantern or already be on the path towards becoming a Yellow Lantern. She explained, “It’s going to span several decades and focus on two stories about Green Lanterns on Earth [as well as one in space] going into the Sinestro story.”
With the attached to the film and the new series as a writer. With the comics having focused on several people as the titular character, there are many options for Berlanti to choose from.
HBO Max is expected to launch in May, but no specific premiere date for the series has been set since the initial announcement. Given the large production that a series like Green Lantern would need, it's possible it could arrive by Q4 of 2020. No details have emerged regarding the current status of the pilot script with casting probably not starting until spring. But with the DC brand being as big as it is for Warner Bros., it's safe to say that Green Lantern is a big priority for the studio and HBO Max.
