She plays Darby Carter and viewers watch six different relationships she goes through. Some might have been the real deal, some were fleeting crushes, and one was even a one night stand. Along with her love life, there were a few other characters involved in notable romances that were even better than what Darby had. Still, a lot of these worked because Anna Kendrick had great chemistry with everyone in the cast.

Darby & Bradley

The second episode, "Bradley Field," saw Darby get into an unexpected relationship. Following a pretty strong love story in the premiere installment, this was where Darby rebounded. Her romance came with someone introduced in the prior episode, her former boss Bradley.

He was older, more successful, and recently divorced, so he came with baggage. Had this been a fling, it would've been better. However, they remained together for nearly a year and it ended on bad . Darby embarrassed herself at his dad's wake and the difference in their levels of maturity at those stages of their lives was evident. It resulted in a breakup that didn't do much for Darby.

Darby & Magnus

This might come as a surprise. After all, Magnus Lund actually has two episodes named after him and his relationship with Darby spans three installments. At first, things seemed great between them. Magnus was a chef who was affectionate, fun, and even got along with her mother. However, that changed when he got fired on the same day that Darby got a promotion.

It sent Magnus into a downward spiral. He ignored Darby, drank too much, hid credit card debt, was lazy, and disappeared for hours. Darby tried to fix it and they even got married. Alas, nothing really changed and when Darby realized her life was in a rut with him, she ended things. He took it poorly but she was ready to move on to something better.

Darby & Danny

The lone one night stand for Darby came in the third episode, "Danny Two Phones." A year after her split from Bradley, Darby wasn't doing too well in her life. To get her mind off of things, Darby's best friend Sara invited her to a party where she eventually left Darby alone.

Darby ended up flirting with a guy named Danny. They hooked up and talked for a little while afterward, where he revealed that he carried two phones because one had voicemails from his ex. Darby helped him get over that but then he wanted a real relationship with her. He confronted her about it weeks later and while their romance never got going, it helped Darby grow and understand her power in a romantic entanglement.

Darby & Luke

"Luke Ducharme" was a unique episode. Coming at the halfway point of the season, this tale was told through flashbacks as Darby recounted it to her therapist. It centered on the year that Darby spent at boarding school and the crush she had on Luke, a boy there. They spent Thanksgiving break together but when other students returned, he ghosted her.

Eventually, Luke hooked up with Darby's roommate, leading to a shameful moment where she lied about having cancer. Thankfully, this relationship turned positive when they reconnected as adults. Luke was no longer a dumb teenager and helped Darby out a fair amount. They hooked up, which helped Darby understand that she could be much happier if she divorced Magnus, which she then did.

Mallory & Taryn

On paper, this relationship is pretty great. Mallory was introduced early on as the roommate and friend of Darby and Sara. She would give sage advice and be a big help for Darby. It was mentioned in ing that she had started seeing a woman named Taryn and the two got engaged.

The episode "Sara Yang" was centered around the weekend of their bachelorette party. Getting to see them together proved that their love was wonderful. The reason they don't rank higher is that they were barely given any screen time. Audiences didn't have enough of a reason to care.

Darby & Grant

All season long, viewers waited with bated breath to see who would end up as Darby's endgame relationship. The finale, "The Person," had a vague title that didn't give away anything. It was certainly a surprise to see that Darby's true person was someone she hadn't met yet.

At Sara's wedding, Darby spent time away from her son and met Grant. The two hit it off and spent the entire night talking. They almost hooked up but Darby, tired from motherhood, fell asleep instead. Still, he was gracious and when they met up a few weeks later, the narrator revealed they were soulmates. Similar to the previous entry, this was good but didn't get enough time to make fans care a lot.

Jim & Sara

When the series began, Jim and Sara were seemingly the perfect couple. The two had been together for years and were a model relationship in the eyes of Darby and the audience. For the first half of the show, they were mostly strong with only a few issues regarding Sara's reluctance to think about a future involving kids and a house.

Even when they fought in early episodes, they felt like a real couple. Their breakup hurt and it was disheartening to see how it sent Sara to rock bottom. Despite everything, Jim continued to care about her and worried about her when she was in rehab. They found happiness elsewhere but meant the world to each other. That's the beauty of this series.

Darby & Augie

The show started with a bang and the best romance. Augie, a friend of Jim, met Darby at a karaoke night. They hit it off and hooked up. After he finally texted her a week later, they began a relationship that was delightful. The only reason they broke up at the end of the installment was because Augie had to move out of state for work.

The two crossed paths down the line but didn't become an item again until the penultimate episode. They picked up right where they left off, however, they realized that they wanted different things in life. Their breakup was amicable and refreshing. Plus, they had Theo and even though they didn't remain together, the look at them co-parenting was adorable.
